Hunting fatality near Fremont - Troy Shawn Hansen

<< < (2/2)

SBarry:
Shooting three shots is a distress signal, or used to be I guess, since no one here has picked up on it yet.

AAllen:
Good point Scott, it has been so long since I have heard that it had completely slipped my mind.

So based upon what has been said he fired a distress signal then several minutes later had something happen where he ended up shooting himself.  It will be interesting to hear more about this as more comes out.

FarmerRick:
Or, he shot at 3 birds/whatever he was hunting, then tripped/fell/dropped the gun and it discharged somehow.  It's hard to say, we will probably never really know what happened.

sjwsti:
Tragic. And the season is just beginning.

It a good reminder that you should be prepared to handle a medical emergency out in the middle of nowhere.

Every hunter should have some basic first aid and CPR training, along with a small med kit on his/her person.

At a minimum have a commercial tourniquet, one that can be accessed immediately with either hand (not in a pack or left in the truck), and know how to use it.

Roper:
Troy was a close personal friend, avid hunter and the poster child for hunter safety.  Freak accident, tough loss for his family and anyone who had the priviledge of calling him friend.
