One Suspect Dead, Another Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery
(1/1)
sjwsti:
Score one for the good guys. It seems the CCW holder verbally challenged the two armed robbers prior to the shooting.
Verbal commands should only be given from a position of EXTREME tactical advantage. So be very cautious if you decide to do this. This will give the bad guys time to react and you may just get shot for your trouble.
That is exactly what happened at the Tacoma mall shooting in 2005. SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC --
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted armed robbery at an Upstate Waffle House Saturday morning.
Deputies say two suspects went into the Waffle House on Chesnee Highway in Spartanburg County and ordered the 10-12 employees and customers inside on the ground.
The Sheriff said the suspects including 19 year old Dante Lamont Williams, were waving guns around, when a customer inside pulled a gun on them.
The customer had his concealed weapons permit the Sheriff said and drew his gun because he feared for his life.
Sheriff Wright said when the suspects tried to fight the CWP holder, that's when he fired but he only intended on holding the men there until deputies arrived.
Williams was shot and died on the scene. The second suspect ran but was arrested shortly before midnight on Saturday. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office was able to identify and take 29-year-old Kenneth Jowan Craig into custody without incident.
Investigators followed up tips and information gathered during the course of their investigation that helped them identify Mr. Craig as the second suspect that was with Dante Lamont Williams as they both tried to rob the Waffle House.
Craig has been charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.
7 On Your Side spoke with Williams father Saturday and he says the family is devastated that their son is gone. He said he had no idea who his son was with Saturday morning and if anyone saw the two together to call the Sheriff's office.
William's father said his son has never done anything like this in the past. Saturday would have been his 19th birthday.
Sheriff Chuck Wright said the CWP training the man had came into play in this situation.
"All the witnesses said it wasn't his first reaction to grab the gun and stop shooting and he tried to make him stop," said Wright.
Wright said you are told to do all you can to avoid shooting something.
"You are trained when to shoot and when not to shoot and what you can and cant do. You learn where you can and can't carry a gun and this gentleman followed the law," said Wright.
The Sheriff’s Office says no customers or employees were injured during the incident.

bullit:
Being from the South, Waffle House is like Ruths Chris for Rednecks. Shows how stupid the BGs are to think something bad would not happen. Probabaly others armed, too.
Ghost:
I've been in a few Waffle Houses too. I'm surprised that more of the customers didn't throw down on those BG's. I'd bet that more than one of the rest of them were carrying too.
