Definitely makes me rethink wanting to carry a J Frame when I get my permit. Looks like a glock 23 will be my main carry piece. I am amazed he ran that far after a center mass from a .45.
In reality any handgun round is inadequate for self defense. Unfortunately it's not really practical to lug an AR or a shotgun around with me everywhere, so I have to settle for a handgun.
I remember seeing a study of self defense shooting that showed some pretty interesting statistics - I think someone might have posted it here. It showed the round that was used and how many shots were fired, whether the criminal was killed, etc. The data showed that both smaller rounds like .380 and larger ones like .45 had pretty high rates of failure.
I do carry a J frame pretty often. When I can I prefer an autoloader with higher capacity, but there are times when it's carry the snubby or nothing.
