"Accurate" Pencil Barrel AR
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:23:32 AM »
I'm planning my next AR build and thinking about something very lightweight but still "accurate".  Let's call ~1 MOA accurate for the sake of this discussion.  I have a lower and a Geissele SSA-E trigger ready to be used so I'm mainly thinking about the upper.  Right now, I have my eye on the Daniel Defense DDM4v7 LW A3 upper assembly.

Thoughts?  Alternatives?

This won't be an extended, rapid-fire weapon so no need to worry about heating up the barrel too much.

could just do what this guy did to make your lower weigh as little as possible

This is the lightweight upper I'm considering: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=BCM-URG-MID-16ELWF-KMR13

I have that same DD barrel on my 5lb AR. I find it plenty accurate for my purposes but I have never shot for groups.

My 11.5" sbr has a DD melonite barrel.  It has no problem holding well under 2", but that's with an Eotech.  Not really an optic that's conducive to precision shooting.  Especially with my eyes.  Plus, the trigger is just a factory trigger and I'm just shooting my cheap blasting reloads.  I've never tried a load with a good quality bullet or done any load development.

I wouldn't be surprised if a longer DD barrel with some magnification and a good trigger can do much better.
