Transporting Pistol on Motorcycle

Hi guys,
Hope it's not a dumb question: In nice weather I primarily ride my motorcycles everywhere. What is the recommended way to transport a pistol on a bike without having a CCW? Both bikes have tank bags and tail trunks.

I'll bump this.  I'm interested in the responses.  I would assume you would have to open carry since placing your pistol inside a compartment would make it concealed, which you would not have the license for.

If you simply want to transport the handgun and have no intention whatsoever to use it during transit, and want to be about as safe from prosecution as you can ever hope to get, then:

1)   Field strip/disassemble the handgun.

2)   Run a flexible lock through the magazine well, cylinder, or barrel.   Whichever.

3)   Put all the pieces/parts in a plastic bag.   Put plastic bag in hard case.   Lock the case.

4)   Put the locked hard case w/handgun in one saddle bag.    Lock the saddle bag, even if it can be easily cut open.   [Like a leather bag.]

5)   Put any ammunition in a locked hard case.   Put the ammo in the other saddle bag and lock it.



Be sure to gas up completely before you hit the Illinois border, so that you don't have to stop in Illinois.   Or Omaha, as well, for that matter.


Yeah.   I know.    Total overkill.    Completely unnecessary.   Infringement of the Whole Bill of Rights.   Whatever.

But----the above steps do respond directly to the gentleman's question.

What's the rule(s) on open carry in Lincoln/Lancaster County? Can I put a holster on my motorcycle jacket and ride without being hassled? Of course the pistol would be mag-less and empty.
