On April 28th, Precision Response Training (http://precisionresponse.4t.com) will be holding two special short courses for shooters interested in USPSA competitions.  Each short course is separate, meaning you can take one, the other, or both if you are interested.

The first course (~3.5 hours in the morning) is the Introduction to USPSA course.  For shooters who are interested in starting USPSA action pistol shooting, this course gives you the information and experience to start competitions in a safe and fun fashion.

Curriculum includes information regarding USPSA range rules, range commands, the scoring process, equipment needs, and the classification process, and provides range practice on basic skills needed to safely navigate USPSA courses of fire.    Cost is $45.  (Includes a short mini-match.)

The second course (~3.5 hours in the afternoon) is the Classifier Skill Builder course.  In May, the Eastern Nebraska Practical Shooters will be holding a USPSA Special Classifier match, which means shooters will have a chance to shoot 6 classifiers all in one match.  This will enable new shooters to obtain a classification in just one match, and experienced shooters to make a significant difference to their classification level all at once.

The Classifier Skill Builder course will help you prepare for the Special Classifier.

Just so you know, we will NOT be setting up the classifiers so you can just practice them directly.  While that might get you higher scores, it won't actually necessarily teach you the skills you'll need for other USPSA stages.

We WILL, however, be practicing directly the skills necessary to do well on those classifiers.  The difference is that those skills will then be applicable to all stages.  Yes, it will also raise your classifier scores---but it'll help you be a better USPSA shooter also.  The point of the classification system is to be classified at a level at which you can actually SHOOT on a consistent basis--so we want to make sure you have the skills to do so.  Cost:  $45

If you are interested in either (or both) of these classes, go to the Schedule of Classes (http://precisionresponse.4t.com/Schedule.html) on the Precision Response Training website, and register!

(Note:  If you plan on taking BOTH classes, you can register for both of them simultaneously.  Just add both to your cart, and it'll handle it all.  If you do this---while the total in the cart will be $90, I'll add in a discount when we actually run your card, and the price for both courses together will be $80.)

(Reason for Editing:  I explained it horribly badly the first time.)

It just occurred to me that the way I phrased my original email made it seem like the Special Classifier that is going to be held at ENGC will cost $45.  Whoops!  (Those matches and match fees have nothing to do with PRT.)

What I MEANT to say was:
  • Introduction to USPSA Competition class:   $45
  • Classifier Skill Builder Class:  $45
  • Taking Both:  $80

The Special Classifier is a match held by ENGC (NOT by PRT) and if I recall correctly, the match fee will be $18.  I think.  :)  (I don't believe it is any different from the regular match fee, though I may have to check on that.)

Sorry about the bad writing, folks.

Upon re-reading my initial blurb, the explanation was even WORSE than I originally thought.  So I went back and edited it to try to make some sense.

Hopefully, it is more clear this time.

If someone has shot multi gun will they be good to go for the skill builder class or would you recommend the introduction first?

It wouldn't be required or anything---but it would probably help.  It'll cover the divisions, the classification process, scoring, and a number of other things that just don't happen in Multigun, that will make USPSA competition a lot more clear.

Like I said, though, it isn't required if you just want to take the skill builder course.

If you are interested in either of these courses, please get yourselves signed up---I'm trying to figure out how much equipment I need to bring, and having an accurate count of shooters will make that much easier.

A number of people have already signed up---but I've talked to several who have told me they are going to come out, but haven't signed up yet---so please make up your minds one way or another!  It'll make my life much easier :)

The proof is in the pudding, as they say!

I can personally testify to the effective training in the Classifier Skill Builder Course by Thomas Howard at Precision Response Training . After taking the April 28th afternoon skill builder portion of the course, I participated in the May 6 USPSA classifier at Eastern Nebraska Practical Shooters (Eastern Nebraska Gun Club) in Louisville.  The USPSA recently made their posting of one's individual classification, and my classification in Limited-10 division went from a D to a C, and that outcome was because of what I learned from Thomas Howard at the April 28th course.

Thomas is an excellent educator as well as being the only USPSA Master in the state of Nebraska, and that combo speaks volumes.  When his course description says that "each skill builder course begins with a diagnostic evaluation of the student’s fundamentals", that is exactly what happens.  He makes his individual observations of each participant, and then he takes the time to personalize/customize/tailor his critique specific to each individual. And then throughout the remainder of the class, he very clearly presents, demonstrates, and again individually analyzes each individual with respect to the various competition skill areas, again with a focus on where one can improve.

Thomas has an uncanny ability to observe, analyze, and break down one's strengths and weaknesses, and then he works very directly with each individual on the fundamental and/or skill that would lend to improvement.  And all the while, the rest of the class is continuing to practice what he or she was assessed on by Thomas....so there was no real standing around and having to wait once one was on the line to shoot.  After he visited with you, he's off to another participant while you practice what he has analyzed about you, and then he comes back again to re-assess.  If there was any waiting, it was because there were two groups of 3-4 shooters...while I was reloading my magazines, I was doing all I could to watch and listen to what Thomas was instructing those on the line who were doing the shooting.  One can learn a lot from those observations.

The four hours flew by and, at least for me, left me wanting for more....which, as an educator myself, is a good thing.  That's a great sign of an excellent instructor!!

Based on both the experience during the training as well as the outcomes/effectiveness of his training on my classifier shoot the following week, I would highly recommend this course and instructor.  And this is not the first instructional class I have taken from Thomas.  He is consistent with his approach, and that was another impressive virtue.

I don't want to get into the specifics of the skill sets that Thomas went over with us in the course....because I want you to take the course from him!  ;D  The knowledge of the skill sets is one thing, but the personal analysis and application and re-assessment that takes place during the course is the meat of it. Ya gotta go and taste it!  :)

Congratulations on your class change!  Excellent shooting!

One small correction, in the interest of precision---I'm not the only Master-class shooter in Nebraska.  There is one other person who is an "M," and he is classified Master in the Open division.  I'm the only one classified "M" in the Production division in Nebraska.

I'm glad the class helped---and I will say it doesn't surprise me at all that you moved up to C-class already!
