They don't get it because you can be in a car "accident."  Oh, and the media shoves down their throats that guns are the problem, not people. 

One of the first things I do in my 5th grade class is ban the word 'accident.'  Instead we replace it with 'careless,' or 'inadvertent.'   There are very few things in this world that are accidents.
