ENPS Man vs Man Steel Match!
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:33:45 PM »
On May 20th, the Eastern Nebraska Practical Shooters will be hosting its annual Man vs Man steel match---and you should try it. :)

The match is run in a double-elimination tournament-bracket format, and each matchup is won based on the best two out of three runs.  For each run, you and your opponent are each faced with identical sets of steel targets, including one (each) that cross over each other when they fall.  At the start signal, you draw and knock over the steel as fast as you can, with that crossing steel last.  After each run, whoever's steel is on the bottom, AND all their other steel are down---that person wins.  Win two out of three, and you advance.  Lose, and you head to the other bracket.

Double elimination, so you will get a minimum of 4 runs.  (And with participation the way it has been, you'll get a LOT more.  We've had some great turnouts in the past few years.)  Categories are either "Irons" or "Open".  Guns suitable for Production, Limited, L-10, or Single-stack are all suitable for Irons.  (You won't want to try this with a revolver---matter of fact, you won't leave yourself much margin for error with a single-stack, either.) Open is for those folks who can't aim with regular iron sights and need compensators to handle the recoil for them.  :)

All you need is an accurate gun, three magazines (in case it goes to three runs), and a good belt and holster.  If you have to reload, chances are you've already lost...but it never hurts to have another mag handy, so a mag pouch won't hurt your chances any either.  And lots of ammunition.

That's in the morning---after a lunch (provided with match fee!) we do it again, but with shotguns.  Single elimination this time, with both pump and semi-auto divisions.   If you feel like it, bring one of each and we'll try to get you in both divisions.

We have people of all experience levels participating, so come out and give it a try.  It really is a ton of fun.

Here's a video with some clips of what it looks like.  (Ignore the 6x6 wood shoot at the end---it seems we won't be doing that this year.)  That's Lindsey channeling Yosemite Sam at the beginning there, by the way.

Two more things:

1) If you want to bring out your family (your kids reload your magazines for you, don't they?) non-shooters can still get lunch with the rest of us for $5.  $20 for shooters gets you entered in the morning handgun part and the afternoon shotgun part, with lunch in between.

2) We will be having a plate rack side match going, starting midway through the morning.  $1 gets you one run at the plate rack using your centerfire pistol from the holster.  We'll keep track of the top three times in the Optic and Irons divisions, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division getting 50%, 30%, and 20% of the pot respectively.  If you think that one run might not be enough to optimize your potential, drop in $5 and get 6 runs.  (Feel free to try it more times than that!)

Note:  we will only count your best time out of all your runs for score.  In other words, you can only place once.

See you there!

Just bring ammo.  (Buy some of the Winchester AA  ~1300 ft/sec stuff---it'll make anyone's shotgun run.)  Someone will let you borrow theirs, I'm sure.

Good question.  :) It really depends on how many people show up.

We generally do all the handgun in the morning, break for lunch, then shoot the shotgun in the afternoon.  Since we aren't doing the 6x6 wood shoot at the end, it'll be shorter than normal.

My complete nonsense pull-it-out-of-my---head guesstimate is that we'll finish about 3pm.  However, that is based on nothing other than wild surmise.  If you are only shooting handgun and having lunch, you'll probably be done by noon-ish.  (But why?!  Shoot shotgun too!  In both divisions!)

That match was a great time!  We had 52 shooters in the pistol divisions, and 28 in the shotgun divisions.  There were some SERIOUSLY close runs, and watching the Open guys blazing through steel was almost too much fun.

I got some video of a number of different people, and I'll post it after I have a chance to edit them all together.  Hope everyone had a good time!  (And special thanks to Bill B, Bill H, Ellen, Keith, Roger, and Ardena for showing up to help set up Saturday evening.)

Match results at: http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/2012/2012.htm

(And if you were there, you'll understand why a lot of people are suddenly thinking about buying a Mossberg 930JM Pro.  :)  And that the Greenfields are really really really tall.)
