Red Dots
(1/1)

Hello everyone.... Okay it is time to finally get a scope for my AR-15. I am looking into aimpoint or eotech. As my research is showing it looks more like it's a personal brand type competition. I am just wondering what people have to say if you own one? Also, any other options let me know.........

I don't own either but I've used both. I strongly prefer the reticle on the Eotech, but the Aimpoint has much better battery life. There seem to be more reports of failure with the Eotech but I think either one is very reliable.
If you want an Aimpoint at a very good price watch Palmetto State Armory. They put the Patrol Rifle Optic on sale now and then.

Try both and see what you like. Do your research. This is about as much detail as I am willing to go into on the interwebs:
I'm an EOtech guy, have been for a long time. The large ring is easier to pick up for close quarters, but the smaller 1MOA serves me much better for longer ranges.
They are both projection optics, but function differently. Aimpoints are reflective, and Eotechs are Holographic. They both are parallax free, but only at infinity. For this reason I prefer the outer ring of EOtech as a reference point to "manually" shave off that extra little margin of error for those longer range shots. The "single dot floating in a tube" has never worked well for me, both as a matter of function and actual results on paper/steel.
The 3-5 MOA (depending on model/year) dots on aimpoints restricts the level of accuracy that can be reasonably attained. But Aimpoints are a bit cheaper, IIRC, and do have much better battery life*
*an EOtech is just under 45 days constant run time, and it warns you about 12-24 hours before loosing power. If I am ever in a kinetic environment where I can't get 2 double AAs in 45 days, I think I can live with switching to irons)

I have both but prefer my aimpoint t1. It is so small and light it is like it isn't even there. I do love my ops though. It addresses the battery problems of the other eotechs

Has anyone had any experience with the Leupold red dot/ reflex sights??
