Does anyone have a good way to loosen up the bayonet?  There is no way I'm getting that thing on without a mallet, and then it's not coming off.

Maybe wrap emory cloth around a dowel and smooth out the inside of the ring?

yup, what bk said or I've used a cold chisel the right thickness & tapped it with a hammer to spread the slot just a wee-bit & it now fits fine.

I've heard that when the crates of them arrive in the USA the bayonets are there that match number-wise but whoever pulled them out to ship didn't bother to match them up. ???
