Just got back from San Diego, attending the NRA Range Operations and Development Conference. It ran 5 days [Oct. 6-10). About 100 people attended, all Good Shooter Folks. Plus an outstanding NRA full/part-time training staff of 10-12 serious range operations experts.
Had seminars on range noise, projectile containment, lead removal, OSHA lead standards, EPA, business operations, range management, range safety & health, indoor range ventilation, legal aspects, zoning regulations, working with agencies, insurance, design and construction, and other topics of interest to range operators and gun clubs.
We visited the American Shooting Center (San Diego), Chula Vista PD Range, and Lemon Grove Gun Club (Alpine, CA). We were also wined and dined by numerous range equipment and accessory vendors.
The encouraging thing was that a large number of the attendees were there to gain information so that they could go back home build their own indoor shooting range. One couple planning to do was from Omaha; they hope to build a new range in the Greater Omaha area.
Prior to the conference, I also attended the 2-day Range Technical Team Advisor training session to obtain certification as an RTTA.
