Help! Need place to hunt Near Valley, Nebraska!!

Hey guys, my wife and I are new to hunting and want to give our shooting skills a trial run this fall with hunting rabbit, squirrel, pigeons, coyote and prairie dogs. We really want to find somewhere close to where we live in Valley, Nebraska. We could really use some help finding someplace to hunt. We would really like to make friends with some farmers in the area here but have been turned away from the few that we have talked to and turned away rather rudely to be honest. So we're getting a bit bashful about knocking on doors and trying to talk someone into letting us hunt their tree lines at this point.

Only place we really have close is Two rivers state park and I'm not even sure you can do anything but camp and fish there. The nebraska public access guide isn't showing up anything in our area, and not really much within 100 miles of here. We couldnt really figure out how the atlas works either so maybe someone can offer us some suggestions on how to go about hunting on the lands that DO show up on the atlas. We did find a couple of fields out by branched oak on the map, but was not sure if we had to ask permission or if it was something we just walked in and hunted.

Any help you guys can throw our way would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Check out the "Where to Hunt" page on the Nebraska Game & Parks website for hunting guides and regulations as well as public land (SWMA's, CRP, State Parks, ect.) open to hunting. You can hunt at most of the Wildlife Management Areas in the state but you'll want to refer to the Public Lands Guide to see what types of game you'll be able to hunt.

Powderhorn WMA is about a 40 minute drive north of you on 275. It gets a fair amount of traffic during hunting season but it is worth looking into.

Except for FarmerRick, you're experience is rather common ....  the new state slogan wasn't changed to "Nice" for no reason......

i would expand your search location, if you want to be close to valley you'll be in trouble, you need to look a little further out, and don't be afraid to offer some manual labor in exchange to ability to hunt their property.
You'd be surprised how a little sweat equity can really open those doors up for you.
