Your Favorite Hand Primer Tool?????
SemperFiGuy:
I've used my old Lee Autoprimer with the round tray so much that the plastic bushing around the seating rod finally wore out and primers would not seat reliably. Lee wouldn't accept it for repair; they have a newer design out. [Lee has now gently hinted that maybe those older Autoprimers were dangerous, especially with Federal primers.]
So--then I finally got the newer design model, the Lee Autoprimer XR, w/the step-up lip, square tray, and the cheepie plastic lid which has those clip lips that break off all the time. I'm using a medium paper clamp to hold the lid on. Reloaders improvise a lot.
Also, I've got an RCBS hand primer which has the seating rod that always falls out and rolls under the loading bench, requiring a hands-and-knees search in the dark. Spider webs. Roly-poly bugs. Old, spent primers. Tools. Knee pain. Whatever.
Never have used the primer device attached to the press. No sensitive feel to that one. Primer seating feel is important.
So--do any of you reloader gentlemen have a hand priming tool that really works?? One that doesn't seat the primers anvil side out??? One that feeds primers reliably?? One with good seating feel?? One where the square doesn't meet the round and drop primers on the floor?? Would you kindly share that secret, if you do??

00BUCK:
I have an RCBS universal (square tray) that I use. I've never had an issue with the seating rod falling out. I like the feel of it - I can easily tell when some primer pockets are loser than others. I set those cases aside for depriming and recycling.
I did have an issue that was caused by a defective primer that I didn't notice when filling the tray. It took a chunk out of the primer feed when I encountered it. I called RCBS, told them what happened and that it wasn't the tools fault. They sent me a new primer feed - no charge, no shipping, and I had it in 2 days.

I use the Forster Co-Ax Primer Seater. It's well made and safe. It can be a bit of a pain to set up and load, but once you've done so priming is fast.

Hornady makes a good tool but it only works with Hornady shell holders.

I still like the old lee autoprime the best of all I've tried. I think I'd try to scrounge up a used one on ebay, gun broker ,etc.----FWIW --Mike.
