Introduction to Steel Challenge
JTH:
Okay, updated the initial post for 2017, and revamped the explanation of the various divisions. (They have brought back SS, ISR, and OSR, included Carry Optics, and PCC has really taken off---probably because it is so much fun!)
New local match dates are listed, and we ARE going to again hold a level II Steel Challenge Championship this year, with the competitors being able to shoot in up to four divisions if they want to do so.
SCSA has done quite a bit of work on their classification system, and it seems to be working really well. If you shoot one of our matches and are a SCSA or USPSA member, make sure to tell us your member number at registration so that your scores will count for your classification!
First local SC match of the year is coming up--take a look at the post about it in this subforum, and come out and shoot!

Id like to try the Thursday night SC, is this shot at the berms just to the right, after stopping at the RO shack, or farther down, at the berms down at the end of the road?
Looking at the satellite picture of the facilities, the berms at the end of the road has one that is uphill from the rest. Im a super senior, and walking up the incline even with a cart, up the road, would be a challenge for me, vs the level berm area just past the RO shack.
What about shade? Sadly, I had to forgo the last shoot, 5/19/2022, not knowing about the facilities, 93 degrees and no shade would have been too much for me.
Thanks.

Dan S,
If nothing has changed, the Tuesday night and Thursday night SC were either 3 stages or 4 depending on the sunset times.
The ENGC schedule should list the bays used for each match.
They were usually on the original bays down the bottom by the large storage shed. Bays 1 thru 5 are on the flat with bay 6 and 7 going up the hill.
I think that they use bays 2 thru 5 primarily. Not a lot of shade anywhere. Sometimes there might be a canopy or 2 if lucky.
And, I would suggest to call the match director to verify if further questions.
Good Luck and Enjoy. Lots o Fun.

The match is in the lower set of pistol bays, normally held on bays 2, 3, 5, and 6. (So yes, at the end of the road down the hill. And you can always drive up to bay 6 if needed!)
Bays 5 and 6 have cover, though bays 2 and 3 do not. It can indeed be hot, though the sun is going down by that time of day so you aren't getting blasted by it.
Several people bring battery-powered fans, and we DEFINITELY suggest that people bring water.
If you are interested, this link will take you to the ENGC Practiscore page, listing all of the matches currently available for registration:

(If you don't have a Practiscore account, go ahead and make one. They are free, and they do NOT share your info with anyone. Pretty much everyone uses Practiscore for match registration these days, so getting an account there is normal.)
