Are Corrections Officers considered LEO?

(1/1)

SHEP:
Are Corrections Officers considered LEO? Please add a "Yes" or "No" to your response.

wallace11bravo:
No, they are not sworn officers.

There are exceptions, such as sheriff deputies or deputy marshals who work detainment/jails/corrections, but for the large part, they are not sworn officers, they are civilian employees.

Why?

bullit:
But you would need to surrender your firearm before they lock you in your cell post conviction....  :P

As the name LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) implies...Corrections Officers (with the exception of Wallace's description)are not "sworn" to uphold/enforce the law.....
