Of course,  they use the "scary" definition of  "assault".

Quote
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

            Section A. Chapter 571, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 571.023, to read as follows:
            571.023. 1. As used in this section the following terms shall mean:
            (1) "Assault weapon", any:
            (a) Semi-automatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:
            a. A pistol grip or thumbhole stock;
            b. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;
            c. A folding or telescoping stock; or
            d. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel;
            (b) Semi-automatic pistol, or any semi-automatic, centerfire or rimfire rifle with a fixed magazine, that has the capacity to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition;
            (c) Semi-automatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:
            a. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;
            b. A folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock;
            c. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel; or
            d. The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at any location outside of the pistol grip;
            (d) Semi-automatic shotgun that has one or more of the following:
            a. A pistol grip or thumbhole stock;
            b. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;
            c. A folding or telescoping stock;
            d. A fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds; or
            e. An ability to accept a detachable magazine;
            (e) Shotgun with a revolving cylinder; or
            (f) Conversion kit, part, or combination of parts, from which an assault weapon can be assembled if those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same person.

Do they have enough votes to pass it?   IF they do, who do you  think will file a lawsuit challenging its Constitutionality?

As an aside, the "Overton Window" is a political theory which explains how an  unpopular measure can be voted into  law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overton_window

The idea is to push something so radical that most voters  would reject it, like confiscation.   But, then, as a "concession" push only banning high capacity magazines.  The thoughtless voter, thinking they have dodged  a bullet, and to  appear "reasonable" as  well, agree  to the  hcm ban.   Three steps forward, one backward, and the  2A  is  slowly squeezed to death.   The  solution,  of course, is to NOT TOLERATE even  the slightest infringement.

Miss, Colo are pretty close to home.  It will not be long till all gun owners are threatened, like they have been in NY.

You can tell a forest fire is on the way when you smell smoke and the animals are running away.

I checked the Missouri legislature party count:
http://www.house.mo.gov/member.aspx
There are 52 DEMs and 109 REPUBs, but party labels mean little these days.  I suspect that  there are enough votes  in the  legislature to  let the bill die in committee or to kill it on the floor.

I was just in KC a few weeks ago and remember hearing on the local news any new “assault” weapon bans within the state don’t have much traction even with Democrats.

That's  why, when I was an admin at the Kubuntuforums.net website, we change from SMF to vBulletin to power our website.   It handles BB code MUCH better.   Using "code" and "/code" in square brackets should not break display settings by  changing the default font size and dynamic page width.
