None at all that I know about.

Which makes me think that perhaps some people were shooting subsonic (very subsonic) ammo out of their rifles.  The long barrel makes it quiet enough---subsonics make it worse.

Note:  that isn't an accusation at all---there isn't anything wrong with shooting any ammo you like, as long as it is .22 LR.  It just seemed odd that the timers wouldn't pick it up.

As jonm said, without the suppessor, he didn't have any problems.  Some other people still did, though---so I'm thinking quiet ammo.  Hopefully, with standard or high-vel ammo, (plus the adjusted timer) we won't have any more problems.

abbafandr:
What is the advantage of subsonic versus the standard ammo (read cheap s**t) that I buy and shoot?

jonm:
Subsonic ammo doesnt make that supersonic-subsonic transition that destabilizes the bullet. The bullet will restabilize but it isnt consistant. Thats why all 22 match ammo is subsonic. Wont make a difference in this kind of comptition.

Yep.  Most high-velocity .22 rounds won't drop to the transonic level until about 50 yards (that's an approximate) and the farthest shot in Steel Challenge is 35 yards.

In some cases, it might hit that transonic level (close to the speed of sound in air) at 30 yards or so if the "high velocity" bullet wasn't very high velocity--which could technically have an effect.  However, there isn't much more distance to cover, so the deviation would be minimal.

For these ranges with this size of target, it really doesn't make a difference.

jonm:
Another thing to keep in mind is barrels around the 4.5" area will keep high velocity ammo subsonic in most situations. It wont matter for the timer since the blast is louder than the sonic crack.
