Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle campaign video
« on: March 12, 2013, 10:13:45 PM »
Here is Jim Suttle's campaign video he just uploaded today. My brother Famous556 brought this to my attention. He says 21 days till election, I wonder if he will release a new video every day until the election? That would be quite a bit of wisdom on one youtube channel.

Go dislike the video!!

Yeah, like Jim Suttle said, "Send a message..."

Send it loud and clear Omaha!

Mr. Suttle should be reminded that Nebraskans will not tolerate unconstitutional laws being forced upon its citizens.

I can't see this being positive for his campaign but perhaps I'm having too much faith in Omaha. I would really like to see Jean Stothert as mayor.

Based on his comments on KFAB the other day, this is nothing more than political theater and is not a sincere attempt to solve anything.  I'm not sure who he's targeting, but it's clear this was designed to target a specific segment of the voting population with a feel good issue that won't go anywhere in the legislative process.

The fact that he hasn't discussed it with the City Attorney or the City Council pretty much confirms this is nothing but political grandstanding that he's calculating will buy him more votes than it costs him.  Let's just hope he's wrong.  He sounded like a jackass on KFAB, but I suspect the crowd he's appealing to was listening to NPR at the time.

http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=s1101001000
11-101. Oath of office; officers of state and political subdivisions, except constitutional officers; form; endorsement on bonds; filing.
All state, district, county, precinct, township, municipal, and especially appointed officers, except those mentioned in Article XV, section 1, of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska, shall, before entering upon their respective duties, take and subscribe the following oath, which shall be endorsed upon their respective bonds:

I, ......................, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Nebraska, against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely and without mental reservation or for purpose of evasion; and that I will faithfully and impartially perform the duties of the office of ........................, according to law, and to the best of my ability. And I do further swear that I do not advocate, nor am I a member of any political party or organization that advocates the overthrow of the government of the United States or of this state by force or violence; and that during such time as I am in this position I will not advocate nor become a member of any political party or organization that advocates the overthrow of the government of the United States or of this state by force or violence. So help me God.

If any such officer is not required to give bond, the oath shall be filed in the office of the Secretary of State, or of the clerk of the county, city, village, or other municipal subdivision of which he shall be an officer.

11-101.01. Oath of office; state and political subdivisions; employees; form.
All persons in Nebraska, with the exception of executive and judicial officers and members of the Legislature who are required to take the oath prescribed by Article XV, section 1, of the Constitution of Nebraska, who are paid from public funds for their services, including teachers and all other employees paid from public school funds, shall be required to take and subscribe an oath in writing, before a person authorized to administer oaths in this state, and file same with the Department of Administrative Services, or the county clerk of the county where such services are performed, which oath shall be as follows:

I, .........., do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Nebraska, against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or for purpose of evasion; and that I will faithfully and impartially perform the duties of the office of .......... according to law, and to the best of my ability. Here is the penalty section:
http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=11-101.02
11-101.02. Oath of office; false statement; penalty.
If any false statement is made in taking either of the oaths prescribed in sections 11-101 and 11-101.01, the person making such false statement shall be deemed guilty of a Class IV felony. No person convicted of perjury in taking the oath as prescribed in either section 11-101 or 11-101.01, shall hold any nonelective position, job, or office for the State of Nebraska, or any political subdivision thereof, where the remuneration of such position, job, or office is paid in whole or in part by public money or funds of the State of Nebraska, or of any political subdivision thereof.

Here is the oath that our state legislature members have to take.  It has "support", not "protect and defend" as 101
http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/articles.php?article=XV-1

XV-1. Official oath; refusal; disqualification.
Executive and judicial officers and members of the legislature, before they enter upon their official duties shall take and subscribe the following oath, or affirmation. "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the State of Nebraska, and will faithfully discharge the duties of .......... according to the best of my ability, and that at the election at which I was chosen to fill said office, I have not improperly influenced in any way the vote of any elector, and have not accepted, nor will I accept or receive, directly or indirectly, any money or other valuable thing from any corporation, company or person, or any promise of office, for any official act or influence (for any vote I may give or withhold on any bill, resolution, or appropriation)." Any such officer or member of the legislature who shall refuse to take the oath herein prescribed, shall forfeit his office, and any person who shall be convicted of having sworn falsely to, or of violating his said oath shall forfeit his office, and thereafter be disqualified from holding any office of profit or trust in this state unless he shall have been restored to civil rights.

It's time we started impeaching legislators, congressmen and senators for violating their oath of office to "support" and "defend" (all other politicians, judges, etc...) the Constitution.   They violate their oath when they propose and/or vote for bills  which infringe that which "shall not be infringed".   With "friends" like that the Constitution  needs no enemies.

Does it matter?  Whoever gets elected is going to face a recall election like the last three.  And hundreds of thousands of dollars gets wasted in the process.   ::)

I'd like to hear her views on "Gun Control" and "Assault Weapons (?!)" first.

A frying pan, baseball bat, hammer, screwdriver, pointy stick, or a rock is an "Assault Weapon" if you attack somebody with it.

If you ban guns you end up trying to ban "Pointy Kitchen Knives", like quack doctors tried (but failed at) in the UK, because "Gun Control" doesn't work. Google it if you don't believe me. Don't walk around unarmed in London at night, either... >:-[

I have the inalienable Human right AND RESPONSIBILITY as a Citizen to defend myself, my family, my neighbors, and innocent bystanders against criminals, psychos, terrorists, gangs, feral dog packs, mountain lions, Sasquatch, or tyrannical government.

It's written in the Constitution in the introduction, and also into the Bill of Rights as the 2nd Amendment. I will challenge any 2nd Amendment lawyer trained in law school to combat me and I will win. I stand for human rights.

My father also mentioned something that's given me a lot of thought, and the funny thing is he has also read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu.

With most of our troops overseas (on different fronts), our economy in the trash, and disaster after disaster with storms and other catastrophes, why would you want to take guns away from citizens, and FEMA's recommended Disaster Kit doesn't include the most critical survival tool, a good knife?

I think I'm going to dig out those antique McCarthy papers I got at an Estate Sale and take another look at those...

There's a radio interview posted somewhere on this site where she expresses unconditional support for gun rights and opposition to any gun bans.  It was pretty clear to me where she stood.

I heard and read that they are expecting only an 18% voter turn out. That's sad in many ways...but as a passionate, 2A supportive community, we definitely have an opportunity to change the direction our city is headed.

3 likes and over 50 dislikes, maybe this will tell Suttle he's on the wrong side of the issue...  But I don't think he's that smart...
