My email to Fisher and Johanns
« on: April 10, 2013, 09:15:32 AM »
I emailed them yesterday and decided to send them another one today. Here's todays:

When I took a law class in college, I was tasked with arguing a case and assigned to represent the side that was clearly in the wrong. I asked a coworker, who happened to be a lawyer, how I should proceed. He said, and I hope you remember this as the gun debate continues, "When the facts are not on your side, go emotional."
Bringing in the Sandy Hook familys, clearly shows the President does not have facts on his side. None of the proposed laws would prevent another mass shooting.
Please stand firm against all gun control bills.
Thank You

Deb Fisher just posted this to her facebook page:

During the past two weeks, I traveled across the state to meet with business and community leaders, citizens, and students to listen to their concerns and discuss my work in the U.S. Senate. After speaking directly with my constituents, it is crystal clear that the vast majority of Nebraskans oppose the Senate’s gun co...ntrol proposals. Thousands of phone calls, letters, and e-mails to my offices further reinforce this position. Accordingly, I intend to use any legislative tools at my disposal to oppose measures curtailing Second Amendment rights and I will oppose efforts to advance related legislation.

Furthermore, the proposals currently offered would have little or no effect on violent crime – the very problem we are seeking to address in the first place. A number of federal laws to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals are already on the books. The Department of Justice has under-enforced these laws, choosing not to prosecute individuals who fail existing background checks to purchase firearms. Ensuring that current laws are fully enforced should be our top priority.

Your email is well written and your facts are true.

I was just saying at work today that really shocks me in all this is how "they" continue to call us fanatics, say we're pulling political stunts, how we're whining and complaining about "our rights"...yet I see the pro-gun control side repeatedly stating incorrect (I mean entire incomprehensible) facts, pulling the political (emotional) stunts (Sandy Hook families on Air Force One) and whining and complaining WAY more than any of us have. We stand strong behind proven facts, yet they undermine us with lies, exaggerations and deception. And the sad part is, "they" actually believe what they're doing is moral and just.

You know, the really confusing part in all this, is these are our Leaders in this free world. Supposedly, these folks are the best of the best that humanity has to offer. And you know what? When it's all over, when it's all done...no matter the outcome, no one will be one tiny bit safer ever.

In the real world, when you don't know about something, you go talk to an expert. Why isn't our Government coming to us and say "Hey, we all got a problem here and we'd like to see what you think we can do to fix it".  It proves that this entire discussion, like many of our bewildering current events, are strictly politically motivated. Allowing people to die (which is what will continue to happen with this false sense of security they so desperately believe in) to preserve the potential of you getting elected again is criminal. And I have a feeling that this current discussion will never be over. If new legislation passes or if it doesn't, because of the way our Government has handled it recently, it will never go away. Anytime something tragic happens in the future, they Country will once again divide as fingers get pointed and "Told you so" is once again in the headlines. And people will continue to die.

And the maddening part is all of us (at least a vast majority of us) really are for gun control. I think most of us are pretty content with the laws we currently have. But those of us who believe in and follow the law aren't the ones shooting anyone. And I do believe that collectively, we could come to a consensus on a few things that actually WOULD help prevent future tragedies...but damn, that would be boring and sensational-less. And that is not good for future politics. If it's working, how can they say "Hey, look what I fixed"!

All these years, I admit I've been pretty passive when it came to arguing 2nd Amendment rights. I grew up with guns (and gun safety) and honestly never gave it a second thought that they'd not be around always. But the more I see these politicians in the news "emotionally distraught" in their attempts to save us from ourselves...and they are continuously wrong in their logic, well, I am starting to become a lot more hardcore in my beliefs.

Johann press release, “I intend to oppose an effort to consider this gun control legislation because it is at odds with the Second Amendment to the Constitution. I strongly believe in the constitutional right of every law-abiding American to own a firearm just as strongly as I believe in their right to free speech.
