The Level 2 Tactical Medicine/Care Under Fire Course is offered to provide Level 1 graduates with increased strategic skills and knowledge necessary to effectively care for the critically wounded in the field, in advance of emergency personnel.

Description:

The Level 2 Tactical Medicine/Care Under Fire Course will focus on increased knowledge of traumatic injuries, life threatening medical emergencies, rapid patient assessment and treatment. The advanced student will practice the fundamentals of tactical medicine, management of sprains and fractures, recognizing life threatening medical emergencies and how to care for cuts and lacerations. Range skills will focus on a review of Level 1 wounded shooter techniques and how to care for the critically injured while under fire.

Tactical Medicine - lecture and hands-on practice in

Recognizing life threatening medical emergencies

Splinting and immobilizing sprains, strains and fractures
- Students will learn and practice splinting and immobilization of extremities

Caring for severe cuts and lacerations:
- Students will learn and have the opportunity to practice basic suturing techniques.

Live Fire Range Drills  –
Single hand only firearm manipulation, presentation, stoppage reduction, reloading
Proper use of cover and situational awareness
Pt assessment, care and treatment while under fire
Rescue of the critically injured while under fire

Course Logistics:

Approximately 8 hours instruction completed in 1 day.

Required Eligibility:

Successful completion of Level 1 TacMed/Fighting Wounded Course.

This course is physical in nature. If you have any pre-existing medical or physical conditions that could limit your ability to participate, consult with the Instructors before registering. You will be performing highly complex live fire range drills. Safety is our number one concern, so come mentally and physically prepared. Any unsafe gun handling or behavior will result in your immediate dismissal from the course.

Classroom Training Preparation:

Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class for check-in process
Pens, notebooks and course materials will be provided
Feel free to bring drinks/snacks for classroom training, however, a lunch break is included, and limited snacks are available.
Range Training Preparation:

The following equipment lists and descriptions are REQUIRED and NOT OPTIONAL. All equipment must be in good working condition.  Do not disrupt class by not bringing the necessary equipment.

Handgun–semi-automatic handgun with at least two (2) additional mags and a mag pouch. The rear sight of your weapon must have enough of a “ledge” that it will allow you to catch it on your belt, or holster and move the slide one handed.  If unsure, contact an Instructor for advice.

Holster/Belt– Must be a fitted outside the pant belt holster specific to your weapon and proper gun belt. No inside the pant, small of the back or cross draw holsters will be allowed.

Ammunition- bring 400 rounds of ammunition.

Protection- bring eye & ear protection (example) & a ball cap.

Attire- bring clothing and shoes appropriate for outdoor range training. You will be performing range drills from the ground. Be prepared for inclement weather . . . rain jacket, mud boots, etc. are good backup items to have.  This is an outdoor range, and training will proceed rain or shine.
