88 Tactical TacMed/Fighting Wounded Course June 8th 8AM-5PM Tekemah Ne.

We have a few openings left for the June class. Scroll down the Firearms and Training postings to find an after action report done by one of our students from the last TMFW course. Be sure to read the course pre-reqs carefully. To register you must have completed at least one advanced pistol course (doesnt have to be from 88 Tactical to qualify) beyond a CCW class.

The Tactical Medicine/Fighting Wounded Course is offered to provide the trained pistol shooter with strategic skills and knowledge necessary to effectively care for the critically wounded in the field in advance of emergency personnel. It also teaches the individual to continue to fight and defend himself if he is wounded.

Tactical Medicine - lecture and hands-on practice in
•Mental preparation
•Control of bleeding
•Wound care: emergency compression dressings (Israeli Battle dressing, NAR  bandage, Olaes bandage, various tourniquets, wound packing)
•Use of hemostatic agents
•Breathing emergencies: tension pneumothorax, sucking chest  wounds, airway support

Live Fire Range Drills  –
•Single hand only firearm manipulation, presentation, stoppage reduction, reloading
•Fighting from the ground
•Fighting from the ground while injured

Required Eligibility: Prior advanced pistol training is required to register for this class.

This course is physical in nature. You will be performing highly complex live fire range drills. Safety is our number one concern, so come mentally and physically prepared. Any unsafe gun handling or behavior will result in your immediate dismissal from the course.

The following equipment lists and descriptions are REQUIRED and NOT OPTIONAL. All equipment must be in good working condition.  Do not disrupt class by not bringing the necessary equipment.

•Handgun–semi-automatic handgun with at least two (2) additional mags and a mag pouch. The rear sight of your weapon must have enough of a “ledge” that it will allow you to catch it on your belt, or holster and move the slide one handed.  If unsure, contact an Instructor for advice.
•Holster/Belt– should be a fitted holster specific to your weapon and proper gun belt.
•Ammunition- bring 400 rounds of ammunition.
•Protection- bring eye & ear protection (example) & a ball cap.
•Attire- bring clothing and shoes appropriate for outdoor range training. You will be performing range drills from the ground. Be prepared for inclement weather . . . rain jacket, mud boots, etc. are good backup items to have.  This is an outdoor range, and training will proceed rain or shine.

I'll note here that no matter what disagreements Shawn and I have regarding other aspects of shooting---he REALLY knows his stuff on TacMed topics.  If you want to learn this stuff, he teaches (from what I know) the best class in it around here.

We disagree on plenty of things :) but while I haven't taken this class myself, Shawn is both eminently qualified to teach this topic, AND a number of people whose opinion I trust both enjoyed his class AND learned a lot in a very practical fashion.

Thanks for the good words. I dont believe there is an established Instructor on here that would hesitate to send a student to another class if that other Instructors specialty served them better. And Im positive we agree on much more than we disagree. Agreeing all the time would make for a very boring forum.  :D

The rest of us wouldn't know what to do with all of the free time we'd have if you guys started agreeing on things!
