Staples Unfriendly On Firearms

It looks like the next time you need office supplies, you may want to look elsewhere.  Staples lists firearms with illegal drugs and illegal activities.

I read somewhere that Staples recanted...

If they recanted it, they need to recant it a little louder.  I first heard this story on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk today.  A live broadcast national radio show.

from 10/11 news:  "Knives and guns fill the shelves of Maple Creek Gunsmithing in Fremont.

Co-owner Bill Jackson had no idea selling these items made him ineligible to enter a contest put on by Staples.

He entered to win $50,000 worth of marketing from the company, but received a rejection letter shortly after entering.

"Basically it said because we were in the firearm industry that they disqualified us," said Jackson. "They lumped us in with illegal drug use, criminals, and hate groups."

After that, he decided to speak up by sharing the news social media.

This caught the eye of Senator Charlie Janssen.

"I went on social media... went on twitter, went on Facebook and pushed out," said Senator Janssen. "Several people have gotten back to me that are very upset about this."

His messages were shared by hundreds in and around the community-- causing staples to call Jackson and apologize.

"They said they were sorry, and they were going to be changing their rules in their contests to encompass businesses like us."

Still Jackson said he feels like he was robbed of his second amendment rights."

The attack on 2nd Amendment rights continues – this time in our own backyard.

Many of you have seen the story by now:

A local gun retailer in Fremont, NE was rejected as a contestant in a small business promotion – run by the company Staples – simply because they sell firearms.

The rejection notice received by Maple Creek Gunsmithing was shocking.

Staples stated that the business promoted “unsafe, dangerous, or offensive” activities and likened their products to illegal drugs.

The targeting of those who legally buy and sell guns is totally unacceptable.

Not only is Maple Creek Gunsmithing a highly regarded and respected small business, its owners are US Army veterans who, by the very nature of their service to our country, are most deserving of the recognition offered by this or any contest.

I wrote a letter yesterday demanding that Staples revise their criteria for the contest and to rightfully acknowledge legal gun retailers.

Staples has since been in touch with Maple Creek Gunsmithing in order to acknowledge their “mistake.” They are “making it right by allowing the firearms industry to participate in any future contests.” This proves that when our community stands together to make our voices heard, justice can be had.

They only did that because it went national almost instantly last week with places like Fox News Radio.

It's real easy for a business to lose the trust and respect of their customers.  It's very hard for a business to get it back.  As a true sign that Staples was sorry, they could do something like support shooting sports and firearms organizations.  Otherwise, I don't think they are very sincere.  They just don't want to lose customers.
Personally, I still see them as anti-gun, and I'll spend my money elsewhere.

I don't agree with it, but Sen. Janssen is off base. Only the government can violate a person's constitutional rights. Staples is free to do what they want. We are free to shame and boycott them.
