concealed carry at mid-America center
« on: November 01, 2013, 12:19:20 PM »
I'm going to be going to a concert at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.  Does anyone know if they allow concealed carry there?  I believe a Nebraska CHP is recognized in Iowa.

What are Iowa's laws concerning posting of prohibited places, penalties for disobeying, etc?

Iowa accepts all state concealed carry permits including ones from Nebraska.

According to Handgun Law's web site, “'No Firearm' signs in Iowa have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry." The owner can order you to leave and charge you with trespassing if you refuse. But it is not a violation of Iowa's gun laws.

Although Iowa does have state pre-emption, some cities and counties have enacted local ordinances prohibiting carry on property they control. The attorney general has issued an opinion that "home rule" allows them to do so. No one has volunteered to be a test case to determine whether this is legal.

Casinos are off limits without permission from the owners.

One of these restrictions may apply to the Mid America Center. The people at IowaCarry.org should be able to advise you.

You're welcome.

If you do want to carry at MAC, make sure it isn't one of the special places where carry is legally prohibited. If it's not illegal, be extra careful about concealment so that no one notices.

The Iowa Carry web site has good information under the Iowa Permits tab. There are strange hunting regulations that affect people with permits even though they are not hunting. For, example, even if you have a permit, you can't carry a loaded gun while riding a snowmobile or ATV.
