Title: ENPS Steel Challenge Match, February 19th 2017
Post by: JTH on February 06, 2017, 07:24:17 PM
The second ENPS Steel Challenge match of 2017 is scheduled for February 19th!  6 official stages, only $15.  (And this is the last SC match in this area that you get before the SC Championship in April, so make sure you come out and run it!)

Match registration: https://practiscore.com/enps-february-2017-steel-challenge-match/register

Got a .22 pistol?  .22 rifle?  Pistol-caliber carbine?  Centerfire handgun with a safe strong-side OWB holster that covers the trigger guard?  At least three magazines (though 5 is really preferred)?

Then you are good to go! (Don't need a holster for the .22 pistol, by the way.)

Come out and give it a try!  If you don't know what we are talking about, take a look at the Intro to Steel Challenge (https://nebraskafirearms.org/forum/index.php/topic,6854.0.html) post in this subforum.  (And make sure to take a look at the Safety Rules and Procedures (https://nebraskafirearms.org/forum/index.php/topic,7025.0.html) post also.)

Important Note: Everyone must be in line by 8:30AM at the latest or you will not be allowed to shoot! Please do not show up late! We do not want to turn people away but we will have to if you are late.

Sign up now!

Match Schedule:

Matches are run under the current official Steel Challenge Rules.

See you at the range!

(If you haven't signed up for the Steel Challenge Championship yet, head over to the ENPS website and take a look at the SC Championship webpage (https://easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/great-plains-steel-challenge-championship).  Registration links, payment links, matchbook---it is all there!)

Dear PCC Guru,

When bagging/unbagging the rifle shootin' iron, what is the best way to perform the procedure w/o muzzling the hand controlling the bag?

I do not want to incur the wrath of The RO should I ever manage to make it to one of these matches.

Maybe that's my assignment tonight.  Learn to safely bag an AR shootin' iron.

Well, there is the easy way (which, quite frankly, is obviously nothing we'd expect people to actually DO, since it is easy), or the other easy way.

:)

(Note:  The techniques in the video are straightfoward, and I'm serious about them, but obviously I'm not serious in what I'm SAYING.  Nobody go ballistic about that, k?)

But seriously, if it is a bag like the first version, just set it on the ground or the table, open it up with the gun pointing downrange, and lift the gun out.  If it is a sheath-type bag like the second one, unzip it far enough so that when you pull the gun out far enough to lift it free of the bag, the muzzle is still forward of your support hand.  When putting it back do the same thing.

Watching that video, I can't believe how many times I said "obviously."

Obviously, I wasn't paying much attention.  In my defense, I just braced a camera on a book, pointed it down the hallway, started talking, edited in the open and closing slides, and there we go....

In general, just make sure the gun (of any type, people are notoriously bad with pistols in this fashion, and it gets them DQed in matches) is pointed DOWNRANGE when you open the bag/box, and then don't sweep yourself as you pull the gun out or put it back, and you'll be fine.

The closer we get to the match, the better the weather gets.  :)  Right now, the expected weather is sunny, with the temperature in the mid-60s. Going to be a great day to ring steel!

Remember that if you are a USPSA or SCSA member, make sure to enter your member number in the online registration.  (If you aren't, don't worry---just put "PEN" instead.  You can still shoot!)  We shoot enough official stages in each local SC match for you to get classified from just ONE match--and they run the update on Wednesday every single week.

So if you shoot next Sunday, you'll be classified three days after that in whatever division you shoot!

Online registration:  https://practiscore.com/enps-february-2017-steel-challenge-match/register

(The earlier you register, the more likely you'll be able to squad with the all the people you want to shoot with, so bear that in mind!)

Our match director guaranteed 70 degrees, but I'll take 60.  This is seriously good weather for February.  Come on down and join us.

Do we know which stages we're doing this week?  I'm hoping Speed Option is in there, I need to work on that one!

If the SC Coordinator follows the normal progression (which he normally does), we should get Speed Option and 5 To Go this time.  Not Outer Limits nor (sigh) Smoke & Hope.

....don't know for certain, however.

Smoke & Hope is TOO much fun, have to lay off it once in a while or it's like crack and you can't give it up!  8)

Outstanding---89 shooters at the match, which is an all-time record for the number of competitors we've had at a Steel Challenge local match!

If you weren't there, you missed out, because the weather was beautiful, and steel is a lot of fun to shoot.

Results are up on Practiscore:

...and the SteelChallenge.com website:

Congrats to SeanN for destroying the competition and winning every stage!

If you tried it and liked it, remember:  we have a level II Steel Challenge match (all eight stages, and you can shoot in up to four divisions) coming up in April!
