Just re-upped my annual membership at Ike's (Izaak Walton).  I live in Lincoln, and so the range is just 15 minutes away.  I used to go to an indoor range in Lincoln, which is about only 5 minutes away, but besides sucking in all of that smoke, that powder smell would be like cologne, and whenever I would walk by the K-9 car afterwards, the dog would go nuts  ;D

CZ was elected to Ike's Board of Directors this past summer, and so he would be able to give you the full low-down of what one would need to know re membership.  He's the one who started up Rock Your Glock competition at Ike's....currently 4x/yr....maybe a 5th in 2009, which has me salivating  :o  With his enthusiasm and creative ideas, hopefully we'll even see some expansion of types of handgun shooting competitions.  :)  That RYG is a LOT of fun.

Ike's: http://lincolnikes.org/ (http://lincolnikes.org/)

When I first joined Ike's and I was doing my "orientation" with a few others that evening, there was a trap shooting competition ongoing, and the place was hopping inside and out.  But usually when one goes shooting at the range, it's relatively quiet....except if one forgets to put on their ear protectors, which I did once while shooting my G30 at the pistol range under that tin roof...eh?, what was that you said?...eh?  :P  Won't forget that again!

I am a member of the HFGC. (Hobscheidt Family Gun Club)  ;D We have a membership of 4, me, the wife and the two kids. We conduct our own matches including trap, pistol, and rifle matches. I am proud to say that I rank 4th out of our entire club in pretty much all events.  8)

It's handy living out in the country, but I have often thought about joining a gun club just so that I can participate in some activities.

Central City Sportsman's Club member here.  It's a bit rustic, but it's generally functional and quiet.

I also visit Grand Island's municipal range, the Heartland Public Shooting Park, from time to time.

Member of ENGC and the Lincoln Izaak Walton ranges. Both very good facilities. ENGC is better set up for action pistol type stuff, whereas Lincoln Ikes is a good hang up targets and practice type range for me.

No secret handshake I know about!

Bullet Hole is a good place to shoot as well. I used to have a membership there, until one time I stopped in to shoot, and had my two young sons with me. I let each of the boys fire one round while I practiced. I got charged for 3 people for the full time. It cost me something like $50 for what normally cost me around $15. That ticked me off and I never renewed my membership. I do like to go up there and shoot the Tuesday night IDPA courses when I can still.

ENGC pretty much excepts all applications. Only requirement is a current membership of the NRA.
Years past you had to be recommended by a current member.
This no longer applies.

I like to shot further than 25 yards with my rifles so, outdoors I go and ENGC is closest for me.
When weather is bad you cannot beat the Bullet Hole.

You are repeating yourself.
I am now offering you a tour of the range and will gladly attend the new member orientation meeting with you and any others who are interested. Than you can make your decision based on a educated opinion, after the range visit and the range rules.
Just because you attend a new member orientation does not mean that you must join.

It is great to get outdoors with your favorite firearm and shoot some holes and or some big metal plates all the way out to 600 meters.
The BH is a mere 25yds..

First of all, welcome to Ike's   8)  ....today would have been a great day to be there weather-wise....wish I had the time today, but couldn't fit it in.

Second of all re the secret handshake....let me guess: first elbow to elbow, then knuckles to knuckles, then fingers locked together for a thumb war, then 1 round of thumb war, followed by a high five...did I miss something in that mix?  ;D

Oh where do I start.....Oak Creek Sporting, Lincoln Trap and Skeet, and just became a member of the Ikes.  I often shoot at the bullet hole, and sometimes at 4 seasons...but only when I feel like I need a good dose of lead lung.

I enjoy all facets of shooting, shotgun, rifle, and handguns.  If I were to chooses one probably shooting sporting clays.  But then again I have never tried any of the pistol matches.

I'm a New member of NFOA and the forum.  I belong to Weeping Water GC and shoot in their CMP Garand and military bolt rifle matches, NRA highpower, 3-gun, bowling-pin and practical pistol matches.  I Also shoot at ENGC but have not joined yet. I'm also a Bullet Hole member, it is a great place to practice handgun.  I hope to get to the Ike's for their Rock Your Glock shoots this year.  Full disclosure, I am the CMP match director at WWGC and think we hold some good matches.  C'mon out.

I'm a member of the Southwest Nebraska Rifle and Pistol Club in McCook.  We have a nice covered firing line and concrete benches.  Range is pretty short, only 100 yds, unless you have the range to yourself, then you can stretch to 200 yds.  We shoot pistol, mostly bowling pins, and benchrest, centerfire and rimfire.  Our benchrest is pretty much sporter type rifles, no ARA or such.  Once in a while someone gets a wild hair and we try something else, three position, rimfire silhouettes, cowboy action silhouettes.

Partsman257,

On the north side of Lincoln there is a trap club.  They are Lincoln Trap and Skeet (http://lincolntrapandskeet.com/).

I am not affiliated with them, and have never been there.  If you are interested in more (handguns and rifles), you should look into the Lincoln Izaak Walton League of America (http://lincolnikes.org/) as others have suggested.  The Izaak Walton club is southeast of Lincoln on Highway 2 near Bennet, NE.

I've been a member at both ENGC and The Bullet Hole for a number of years.  Now if I could only find the time to actually go to ENGC to shoot.  It's a lot easier and less fussy to shoot at TBH, but I agree that 25 yards with a rifle is pretty pointless.

Being used to hot-range gun-school range rules and weapon discipline, the rules at Eastern are a pain in the posterior.

Chris would probably be in the best position to make some overatures to Ikes members.  Perhaps he already has in one way or another, or is planning to.  I don't really know any of the other members, and have no way of contacting them outside of running into them at the range.  However, I will be happy to do some recruiting while I'm there to shoot should anyone else be there at the same time.

Hi ya Clay.

I did the same thing with the Bellevue club, with the same results.  I actually had to go out to the club site to get some answers.  I wandered around for a bit and was finally approached by a member and asked if I needed something.  I asked questions about the membership and found that you have to know a member to become a member.  No open membership nights/days.  That and the annual dues are around $250 a year and there is a commitment for like 45 hours of club service (cleaning up the ranges, painting, etc) each year.  I don?t have a problem with the service issue, but no open membership?   No way to join except through another member?  You gotta be kidding!

Yes, I have heard that Bellevue Rod & Gun is pretty exclusive , so I have never attended a trap shoot there.

The GI rifle club is setup for outdoor pistol at 25yrds and would not get interupted by the rifle shooters then it has on the otherside of the of the wall 25y,50y,110y,210y rifle as well as a base mounted bluerock thrower for shooting shot gun and you can go as much as you want with your key I also even has night lighting for you pistol and has an indoor range for pistol and rifle has cal. restrictions don't know what they are off hand and during the winter you can go on on cold nights while the RO officer on tues, thru, sunday the officers are all great and they even have their own cowboy shooting range every 3rd weekend I believe and the members do like sharing their knowledge with others and only sometimers they is the few that don't know thoughtfulness and complete safety typical of the world only thinking of themselves by large I'm glad and pleased to be a member of this fine range the only down side is they do not allow suppressors on the range just an old mind set or thinking you can not hear them at all but you can in large cal just make it much nicer to shoot with out losing you hearing

If that's really the way Bellevue is they're doing a disservice not only to themselves but to all shooters.  We need as many new shooters as we can get.  I understand screening members to make sure you're not going to get some idiot who'll do something unsafe, but their attitude makes no sense.

I am a member of the Hawkeye Rifle/Pistol club outside Sioux City, IA and an IDPA club in LeMars, IA.

Sadly most of my NFA shooting I get to do is in Iowa where it's not legal for most folks, but here in NE ranges like ENGC, Lincoln Ikes, Grand Island club, it's not allowed even though it's legal.

Go figure.

I just don't understand the reason behind this the officers in charge are all shooters and the reason behind the allowing of the nfa cans if the state of ne say you can hunt with them. But I guess it will take involvement as an officer of the board to put it to a vote.... I would say it requires my input in these matters.

If you're looking at joining a gun club? Check out Weeping Water Gun Club, I've been a member there for years. We have monthly Membership meeting. Check out their website:www.WeepingWaterGunClub.com or Call Ken King at (402) 291-6805. The club post all requirements needed to join. You may have some fun enjoying the shooting sports, hope to see you there. GREGG  :tool:

I am a 2nd year member at Ikes. Great club and extremely close for me which is a huge benefit. I've shot at both ENGC and Weeping Water. ENGC is larger and more developed but Weeping Water is nice nonetheless. I guess its just whatever is closest. Bullethole is convenient and I need to go see the newly revamped Thunder Alley.

Bringing this back up ....

The ENGC has a membership meeting tomorrow evening at 6:45 (still trying to figure out the location).  I'm planning to attend.

The Bullet Hole is convenient, but I'm not a big fan of indoor ranges.

Edit: Found the location for the ENGC meeting ... Tangier?s Shrine, 84th and Center Rd., Omaha, NE.

I posted this info somewhere on another topic me thinks but just incase thought I would post this for an informational update.

Signed up with the ENGC last night.

Welcome to the club!

Too much traveling and a girlfriend off school for the summer hasn't let me get out there as much as I have wanted...
