Title: .223 Wylde BCG?
Post by: Mudinyeri on March 18, 2014, 09:37:12 AM
Anyone here running an AR in .223 Wylde?  Supposedly, it's the "hot" new chambering for AR's.

I'm working on putting an AR together to terrorize the local coyotes and am looking for recommendations - specifically a BCG right now but any other recommendations would also be appreciated.

I have a stripped lower and a LPK purchased and am looking at a 16" upper/barrel assembly without a BCG or charging handle.

Thanks.

Research indicates that a chambering in 223 Wylde will handle the .223/5.56, BCG should make no difference. As far as I know, they are the same.

Interesting.  I would have thought the configuration would have been different.  No disrespect to your Google-foo, Dave, but I'm hoping to hear from someone who's actually build on.

I am currently building one for my cousin. My google-foo may be weak, but I have a lot. Most everything I have found comes from ARFCOM, I am willing to lay money on those weirdos knowing what they are talking about haha.

Yep, the bolt is the same.  It's kind of a hybrid of .223 and 5.56 - IIRC it just has a little more freebore than .223 to allow it to handle 5.56 pressures.  I have one AR with that chamber.

My 18"  RRA is Wylde...eats anything and everything and MOA or better depending on the nut behind the butt

Yep.  The difference is in the barrel, not the bolt.  (My Fulton Armory ARs have Wylde chambers, and they feed everything.)

... or more accurately, the difference is in the chamber.

Quote
The .223 Wylde is a proprietary rifle cartridge chamber with the external dimensions and lead angle as found in the military 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge and the 0.2240 inch freebore diameter as found in the civilian SAAMI .223 Remington cartridge. Rifles with a .223 Wylde chamber will typically accept both .223 Remington and externally slightly larger 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition.

I'll toss up a build thread just for fun.  ;D
