i am assembling a 308 AR. when my Midway USA parts show up, i will be just about done. since i'm using different parts from several companies i would like to check headspace on the barrel. anyone have a .308 or 7.62x51 Go/No-go gauge i can borrow?

Are you installing your own barrel extension?
Forgive my ignorance, but I have read the extension (on the ar-15 platform) is what sets the headspace and once it is installed, you don't really need to do it again.
Maybe the ar-10 platform is different. I bring it up mostly out of curiosity to see if you know something I don't. :)

well im a noob when it comes to go/no-go gauges. ive never headspaced any AR15's i've assembled. but since the LR-308/AR10's are completely different since there is nothing that is "standard" i just want a little more confidence before shooting it. im in no rush, as i am not close to being done yet. everything i am building is DPMS styled, so it should be all GTG, but we'll see after i put everything together.
so should i even worry about checking headspace?

maybe you should let someone else fire it first!

Maybe SemperFiGuy would like to volunteer. ;D

I wouldn't worry about it. Headspace is set when the barrel extension is installed.

Well, now, that's a tender thought.
But I was flame-hardened in a culture that sez, "never, never ever volunteer". ['Cause you'll get shoved right into the middle of it quick enough.]
