Title: Learning to Shoot, Part IIA: Dryfire
Post by: JTH on April 15, 2014, 03:11:28 PM
So, awhile back I wrote a post on the PRT blog about "How do you learn to shoot?" (referenced here:   http://nebraskafirearms.org/forum/index.php/topic,11160.msg79099.html#msg79099 (http://nebraskafirearms.org/forum/index.php/topic,11160.msg79099.html#msg79099) ) in which I said it would be followed up by commentary on effective practice.

Which I have finally had time to write.  Well, at least half of it.

How do you learn to shoot, Part IIA:  How to Practice! (dryfire section) (http://precisionresponse.wordpress.com/2014/04/15/learning-to-shoot-part-iia-how-to-practice-dry-fire-section/) is up on the Precision Response Training blog, and the live fire post will be forthcoming after awhile.  The dryfire part isn't comprehensive by any means (after all, that is an entire book-length discussion), but it does hit what I think are the high points about effective dryfire practice.

Unless I've forgotten something, which I may very well have.  :)

Thoughts?

I don't have much time to post but the "wall drill" link needs changed to "http://pistol-training.com/drills/wall-drill"

A good follow-up to your class a few weeks ago.  Dryfire is something I've been trying to do, but like most things, even if I like it, it's a struggle to get started sometimes.  I keep telling myself, "just five minutes," which sometimes ends up being thirty.  Thanks for writing this.  It reminded me to practice 'the steps' and that I don't always have to strap on the holster to practice.

Thanks for mentioning that---Wordpress did something irregular there, and I missed it.

Fixed!
