On an unrelated search for stuff.... I came across a digital scale that... may or may not be interesting:

Sorry for it being an ebay link, but ....
It's got a claimed accuracy of 0.01 grams. This is about 0.15 grains.
Why do I mention it ?
Is 0.15 grains good enough for plinking ammo ?
Does the bigger numerical read out a benefit for those of us with bad eyes or would simply like something a bit more convenient ?
Is it consistent ? Etc ?
The read out on that thing looks to be around 1-1.25 inches tall. As opposed to the 3/8 - 1/2 inch of the cheapy MEC scale.

Well.... I'd be interested in hearing about your adventures with it.
I'll be taking apart my lil cheap MEC scale and pondering doing a mod for it ... if possible :D

.15 grain accuracy should be good enough for plinking. I don't weigh individual charges for anything other than precision rifle loads, though. I just use a powder drop for that and spot check occasionally to make sure it hasn't changed.

It's an MTM scale. Why do I always call it a MEC scale ? I have no idea.
Anyway... I'm a bit afraid to take it apart heh. Not knowing how it's actual scale thing works, I can totally see a small piece of plastic or spring getting lost.
I'll have to find some other device and fiddle with it first as well to prove that the concept may or may not work.

so far it works great, the letters are huge, a full 1 inch tall and they are bright, it has about a 4.2 inch across round plate for a scale top, so you can weigh big things
I had a 5 gallon bucket of assorted bullets that I had for a long time, it was from a fire in a gun shop. the firemen were afraid that the bullets would explode,( just the bullet, not loaded ammo) so they really hosed down the boxes
I was able to place them 1 at a time on the scale, and read out the grains, to sort them,
I had to push a button to rezero it about 1 time in 100, but Im not sure if it needed it of some of the bullets were over-under on weight,
it runs on a battery or can plug in a wall, so far its really a nice scale,

If you don't already have it...get a set of scale weights to verify the scale occasionally. Weights appear pricey at first but are an extremely wise purchase. The RCBS set is reasonable and proves what you can't guess.

Ive used to to check my powder thrower, its right on. ive checked it with my beam scale, and its good

Old thread but I forgot to post a pic.
This was pics from the scale when Shooter had brought it to one of the Gretna Breakfasts.
A 200gr bullet is on the scale. Fingers/thumbs their for digit size reference, etc.
