Title: Where to get Components?
Post by: pfinn on January 27, 2013, 08:26:06 PM
I am curious if any of you know of anywhere that has components in stock. Looking for mainly for bullets (.223, .40 S&W, .45 ACP). It seems like everywhere is pretty well sold out of bullets and brass. I've checked CTD, Midway, Brownell's, and Cabela's and Scheel's locally.

I am guessing everything is cleaned out, but thought I'd check.

Reloading components are like hen's teeth right now.

Scheels in Lincoln had some Berry plated .45 ACP today, not much of anything else.

I though it was bad last year. Now it is REAL bad and stupid high cost!

It was amusing seeing selves of .223 empty in every imaginable type store that sold ammunition (and I have done a bit of traveling lately...it is everywhere).  Then there was a bit of panic when I needed some factory loaded 9mm or .45 for a CCW class. Now the loading components are getting harder to find. Disappears in volume when it shows up. And prices keep climbing. Damn "supply and demand" economics thing.

Since no one seems to answer our types of questions, I will try and help with what I have found:
Midway had Rainer LeadFree 115gr FMJ bullets last night fairly cheap.  I picked up 500 just so I can start reloading.
Guns Unlimited had WSP/WSR primers in stock Sat afternoon.
Scheels in Lincoln had A selection of Powders Friday as well as some .223 from American Eagle on the shelf for 7.99.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all. I'm amazed every time I go into a store how empty the shelves are... I'll be curious how long it stays this way.

Neeco -- The American Eagle was gone by opening on Saturday AM, but they had replaced it with Independence 5.56 for $10.99.

I was at Cabelas today.  They had some 45 ACP bullets, but no 230 grain round nose.
They also had some .223, .45, and 9mm dies

pfin:

Components!  Bulelts, brass, primers, powder, etc... not loaded ammo.

Granted, loaded ammo does get you some brass....

Scheels had Hornady 223 dies. 30-06 as well.  Now all I need is the 40. and I am set on dies.  They had 9mm but I don't use it, so left it for someone else.  Now I need the plates and a class to teach me how to use all this expensive stuff so I can start the journey towards breaking even.

Unfy, yes, I flipped there. Original post was about components... just seeing loaded ammo somewhere got me so giddy, I had to tell somebody.

Found the 223 dies and 30-06 dies at Scheels in Lincoln also.  No primers or case holders for any of the calibers I need.  The hunt continues.

BTW, WalMart carries no reloading gear at all.  Everyone probably knows that already, and I just learned it today, so I thought I would share.

Some "rural" Walmarts do. I've seen powder and primers at stores in North Platte and Alamosa, CO.

http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/ (http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/) has some powder and bullets in stock but like most online vendors they're way behind in shipping.  Ordering in bulk is the way to go if you can get a few guys together to split Hazmat & shipping.

I might be interested in a group buy if anyone tracks down some small pistol primers or Ramshot TAC.

Thanks for the lead here, looked into them and ordered two boxes. Good prices, and they seem to get good reviews.

FYI http://store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/StoreFront?sfs=bc680f19 (http://store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/StoreFront?sfs=bc680f19) Brassman has 9MM and unprocessed .223 brass in stock, as well as various other calibers.

www.tacticalbrass.com (http://www.tacticalbrass.com) has fully processed .223 brass in stock.

I've purchased items from bot places many times in the past and can vouch for their quality and service.

How much for small pistol primers at guns unlimited? They have a bunch at my local store but they are asking $90/1000 primers. Over double what I paid a couple months ago.

I ordered 2 boxes from Montana Gold bullets about two weeks ago and they said 7-10 business days.... got notice today that they are now 30-40 days out.

I knew 7-10 sounded too good to be true!

If anyone comes across any Varget, let me know.

Or better yet, pick it up for me and I'll pay you back with a little extra for your troubles.

1lb or 8lb

Prefer 8, but will take a one or more pounders if you see them. The one pounders don't tend to last me very long :)

wallace-

I saw Varget at GU when I was there.  I already had some Rifle powder so I didn't get any.  It was the 8lb.

I am sure you have checked, and my post is pointless in reality, just letting you know they DID have some in stock for longer than the 45 minutes I was in there...

GU had the largest selection of powder I've seen in several weeks.  Boolits and primers, well there's a horse of another color

Finally got my shipment of Montana Gold Bullets in today... exactly four weeks to the day from when I ordered them.

Now I can finally get to loading them up... was fortunate enough to have 1000 small pistol primers left before the buy up started.
