Title: Email now about red flag laws...
Post by: 402.308 on August 07, 2019, 10:01:43 PM
Here is a link to a fillable form to email President Trump: https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

Start calling and sending emails to your local representatives as well!

Here is what I wrote today:

President Trump:

Please dont give the left an inch when it comes to our constitutional rights, especially the second amendment.

The shooting in El Paso was in Simon Mall property's GUN FREE ZONE;

The Las Vegas shooter shot out of the window of Mandalay Bay's GUN FREE ZONE;

The Aurora shooter killed people in a theater that was a GUN FREE ZONE;

The many school shootings were in GUN FREE ZONES;

The many house of worship shootings were in GUN FREE ZONES;

The Virginia Beach shooting was in a building where for employees, it was a GUN FREE ZONE, etc...

The list goes on, but the common denominator is that these areas restricted law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves.

Criminals know where to go to find defenseless victims...
  (GUN FREE ZONES)

CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY LAWS.

There are already so many restrictions on gun ownership as it is, adding more laws only hurts those who follow them.

Please reconsider your approach to this situation. Please protect the rights of Americans. The second amendment protects me in my home.
Lack of due process is un-American.
Whether or not I vote for you again will be based on whether you defend the constitution or not.

i contacted him yesterday.  i emailed about him promising to stop the assault on our freedoms, but his actions have been the opposite, siting no HPA and bumpstocks.  i also mentioned that millions of gun owners are looking at his actions and contemplating who to vote for.

will it do any good, i doubt it.  but at least i tried something.

i need to hit up my other federal reps and my state/local ones too.  just for good measure.

Ah, boo-hoo. You have to stay positive, negativity is a self fulfilling prophesy.

Keep at it and don't give up. We can't give up. Keep calling, keep writing, keep sending letters.

Trump knows he has to appeal to his base. but if we don't speak up collectively, how will he know? If he doesn't appeal to his base someone else will have to.

We have to encourage our friends to speak up too, no more of this "will it even make a difference?" crap!

Look, the left are some of the squeakiest wheels out there and do you see how well it is working for them?! Of course they have the media telling them what to think all the time while brainwashing more, but gun owners also have numbers. bigger than we think. It just seems that we are too laid back while we now have open socialists running for president. How did this happen?

Enough is enough.
Get off your butts and get active gun owners!! It's literally now or never.

Don't wait for someone else to fight the battle for you.

Please send [GOA's] pre-written letter to EVERY SINGLE Republican Senator’s inbox telling them that if they vote to end the Second Amendment, American voters will NEVER FORGET it.

I E-Mailed the White House today firmly opposing Universal Back Ground Checks and "Red Flag" laws. I will be contacting our Senators and Congress men urging them to oppose those laws also. I signed the GOA letter to President Trump. It is time we, the silent majority, rise up and let our government hear our "roar". We need to be silent no longer!!

I’ve contacted the White House, both Senators and even Jeff Fortenberry.

Been getting a bunch of emails from Ben Sasse asking for campaign contributions. Did some deeper research on him and can’t find many details on his 2nd amendment positions. So I sent off an email asking for details on his stance on red flag laws, background laws and the concealed carry reciprocity senate bill S. 69 (noticed that he was NOT a sponsor). After I found the following article discussing his views on red flag laws https://www.omaha.com/news/politics/senator-ben-sasse-would-back-red-flag-gun-law-that/article_ac4c813d-5864-5a27-acf8-0ad609a63af6.html (https://www.omaha.com/news/politics/senator-ben-sasse-would-back-red-flag-gun-law-that/article_ac4c813d-5864-5a27-acf8-0ad609a63af6.html).

Please call, too!  It's easy to ignore emails.  With a phone call, you're guaranteeing that somebody who works for them gets the message.

I was shocked to get a written reply in the mail from Ben Sasse. I’ve contacted him and Jeff Fortenberry in the past and the is the first time I’ve gotten a reply from either. His answer is mostly good, against new gun control laws and concentrating on mental health instead. But if I read his reply correctly (parts of it are written in politician not English) it appears Ben would support red flag laws if he thought the bill adequately protected 2nd Amendment rights.

I was also disappointed that he didn’t address my question on the Senate reciprocity bill and why he isn’t a sponsor.

So for right now I’ll see if a true conservative runs against him in the primary. If he turns out to be the Republican candidate I’ll probably wind up voting for him because I think the Democrats will run a “progressive” (AKA socialist) candidate pushing “common sense gun laws” (AKA citizen disarmament).

I’ve given up on Fortenberry. I used to be in the 2nd district but a few years ago was gerrymandered into the 1st district. And just barely - across the street north from me is still 2nd district.

i got the same letter from Sasse.  I am also worried about his wording.

don't forget to email/call/write your State Senator as well.  you know Morfeld will be pushing that this coming session.

I am writing my State Senator but since my Senator is Carol Blood I don’t expect much support.

And I discovered Sasse is being challenged in the primary by Matt Innis (https://mattinnis4senate.com/). His web site says nothing about 2nd amendment rights and he is from Lincoln so I have doubts. But will write him to see what he does, or does not, say. Anyone have any background information on him?

Thank you, SuperHusker.
Here also is a survey from GOA I got via email. They are compiling results and sending these to the Senate Republicans. Please fill out the survey and add comments on the last question!

From his response on Facebook:

Quote
Matt Innis for Senate
Hello, Rick!
I oppose red flag laws. I don’t believe we can put our 2nd Amendment rights in the hands of unelected judges. There is a slippery slope involved with this issue where once you start chipping away at a constitutional right, it becomes easier to take away more and more rights. I do not see how a red flag law would not restrict gun owners’ 2nd Amendment rights.
Thank you for reaching out to me!
Matt

At this point Matt's entire campaign is that Ben Sasse has not been a big Trump supporter, but last election cycle he was a Jane Raybould supporter. First glance has him looking like another Democrat running as a Republican saying what he thinks the Republican base wants to hear so he can get elected.

I have had a long conversation with Ben Sasse about his position on Red Flag laws (sitting down in person face to face without a handeler) and while he feels that there will be a hard push to pass something the only way he will support is if there is a hearing where a person can defend themselves before there can be any confiscation, he also feels that there needs to be treatment for the individual because taking guns away does not stop them from getting a truck or making a bomb or any of the other things that could be done by a person wanting to kill others.

Thank you for this post. We always have to be on the look out for wolves in sheeps' clothing, especially in politics.
Actions speak louder than words.
It is also good to know that you are having face to face conversations with these representatives on our behalf. Thank you.

And thank you to all those others who make that extra effort to ensure gun owners' voices are not silent.

This information is from a NAGR (National Association for Gun Rights) postcard I received today.

The US Senate is considering “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation and Universal Gun Registration in September.  Call your Senators now to stop more gun control fom passing!

*** Deb Fischer at (202) 224-6551
*** Benjamin Sasse at (202) 224-4224

Tell them to oppose any and all gun control, especially:

*** “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation (including federal funding) AND

*** Universal Gun Rgistry (Including HR8 and the “Toomey-Manchin” bill)

or Text VOTENO to 67076

I just fired off (no pun intended) more e-mails but I didn't bother with the House of Representatives since that's a lost cause. Ain't much Smith can do.

I followed up with Ben Sasse on the reciprocity bill. His reply was evasive at best and lots of it was boilerplate from his reply on Red Flag laws. I thought it was interesting that he said the reciprocity bill was being studied by the Senate Judiciary Committee but failed to mention he is a member of that committee. And did not commit to support it. I need to follow up with Matt Innis to get his views on concealed carry reciprocity.

“Thank you for reaching out to share your views on the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2019. We agree about the importance of protecting our rights under the Second Amendment, and I deeply appreciate and value the opportunity to hear and learn from Nebraskans.

 Defending responsible gun owners means defending the Constitution. The belief that government is not the author of our rights is the foundation of our Constitution. All of our rights, including the most basic right to self-defense, are intrinsic and inalienable. Our Founding Fathers considered our liberties so important that they specifically enumerated them in our Bill of Rights, and prominently listed the right to keep and bear arms.

 The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2019 was introduced by Senator Cornyn in January 2019 and is currently being considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee. I will keep your support in mind as this bill moves through the legislative process.

 As we work to address the challenges facing our nation, I value and depend on your input. It is an honor to serve Nebraska, and I will keep working hard for our state.”

I was reading about that the other day.  This is even worse than "red flag" laws, because this wasn't ordered by a judge, it's literally just a police chief overstepping his authority and taking away a citizen's rights (a veteran, no less) without any due process whatsoever.

While he eventually got his job reinstated, last I heard he was still fighting to get his guns and license back.  I hope he's suing that chief - and the city - for all they're worth (and then some).
