My question is - can I carry a handgun in either my truck or on me when I'm hunting in Nebraska lawfully without any sort of permit. I realize in Omaha its required though. If someone can provide clearity I would appreciate it.

As long as the gun is out in the open, shouldn't be a problem.
One thing that pops into my mind (and I'm not a hunter) I think if it is during deer season, you cannot carry a centerfire pistol UNLESS you have a deer tag. So in other words, you can go out hunting rabbits... while carrying a centerfire handgun unless you have the deer tag.

I don't believe you can have a handgun on you if you doing any archery hunting.

Currently, what does the law require to open carry in Omaha, NE?...Will an NE CCW permit allow the permit holder to legally open carry in Omaha, NE?

Currently yes, however in addition to the Concealed Handgun permit, you must have your handgun registered with the Omaha Police Division as well

The law against carrying a centerfire handgun or rifle during deer season wihtout a deer tag is unconstitutional. We had a game warden get on the c.b. and tell us we had better not be carrying centerfire rifles while hunting coyotes during deer season without a deer permit. One guy pipes up that that is a violation of the 2nd amendment, and heard no more from the game warden (We saw his pickup). I have never heard of anyone being cited for it, has anyone else?

Last year they sited some guys for it up near Columbus. They were claiming to be coyote hunting, but they were really poaching deer. They weren't carrying handguns, but rifles.
It maybe a question that we need to throw up on the game and parks web site.
