My collection is nowhere near some other guys' but I do like the big bore rifles. There's a lot of appeal in a big boom, a solid thump to the shoulder, and a rainbow trajectory. I got my most recent for the upcoming Cowboy Lever Action match this spring at the Lincoln Ikes range.
From top to bottom:
Pedersoli 1874 Sharps in 45-70
Nepalese Snider-Enfield in .577 Snider
60's era Marlin 336 Saddle Ring Carbine, rebored to 38-55 by JES Reboring http://www.35caliber.com/ (http://www.35caliber.com/)
1878 Martini-Henry in .577/450

I approve of this message, even if my shoulder does not.

Let's see some more big boomsticks!

What is the second one from the top? Is that an 1873?

It's a Snider-Enfield. The English converted the Enfield muzzle loaders to a .58 caliber breech loader.

that topic made me lol
-
i have nothing to add.... expect BK, you're my idol.
-
Other than the tirty tirty, the Arisaka sporter, and the Mosin, I have nothing to add.
But on a 'related' note. younger brother just put his cash down on a Shiloh Quigley Sharps. Now the wait begins...
-
I WISH I had a Shiloh. Pedersoli makes a nice gun, but Shiloh is on a whole other level.
-
Probably why he has 14 months to pay off a bank loan, (which purchase his last guns) And make his car payment, and save back the $3500ish for to send to Shiloh.

Ouch.

I've got a nice Winchester Model '73 44/40 that I inherited from my father. I've been skeerd to shoot it as I haven't spent the time to figure out what ammo to use..... :-[

ckspeed, you should be fine using 'cowboy load' .44-40. I think Cabela's has some on the shelf- or at least they did. If u are into rolling your own, I can get you a nice recipe to start with. I would look the firearm over good, but on the whole they are gooduntuff. If ur still skeered, I sure could use a good ol '73 for SASS.

How about a few big bore single shots?

Yea, the No. 1 is a 405 Winchester I picked up several years ago. Been discontinued now. Very accruate gun. The one your asking about is a C. Sharps 1875 in 45-110. Its seen a lot of use.
