Title: 1911's .45 ACP John Browning Should Have a Holiday Named for Him
Post by: Randy on November 27, 2008, 11:50:04 PM
If a firearm has ever made a resurgent in popularity it is the 1911 .45 ACP.
Kimber got the ball rolling in late 90's and the ball has not stopped.
There are now so many quality .45's available that the list seems endless.
Even the worst trigger on a 1911 is often better than some other gun styles best trigger.

I agree 100%.  Perfection at its simplest.  For a variety of reasons I like a hammered action on a 1911.  The beaver tail on my Kimber is just long enough that I can de cock it pointed safely away with one hand and for me that is an important issue.  As just a note of interest, eventhough the U.S. military went primarily to the 9 mm, Marine Corps Special Ops has continued to use the .45 ACP.  It was designed soley to put out a lot of fire power at close range, put down what ever it hit and make a lot of noise while doing so.

I guess with all the LEOs that carry Glocks, you could say they won the "War on (fill in the blank)". Oh, wait...
Personally, I like both (though I prefer my 1911). But, BAM! I had to clean my keyboard after that.   ;D

Let's not forget that the 1911 is not the only design he came up with. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browning).

A Holiday to celebrate John Browning is a GREAT idea.

What about Gaston Glock day?
Why is it if you try to talk about a gun other than Glock, someone feels the need to add it into the conversation. ;-) Let the Austrians have Glock day. America can celebrate our own exceptional figures. Glock day...sheesh. :-) It would be like praising Hyundai's and Kia's as the best cars ever made.

What war has he helped win?
A better question would be "What did he INVENT"?
