Title: Ruger Super Black Hawk 44mag
Post by: shovelhead69 on May 17, 2013, 03:45:05 PM
Any suggestions on what scope I should get for it? Never had a scoped pistol before but think I need one for my future plan's. Have 2 of these and love em!

I have a Nikon 2x on my 500 Smith and it has held up great. I was originally looking at variable power scopes from Nikon and Leupold but the field of view is atrocious on those. If it is just for plinking I would go with variable, but if you want to hunt I would recommend a fixed 2x.

Thanks for the info and reply. Looks like a fixed 2x is what I need.

I once had a Leupold M8 2X on a Contender, and did great work with it. A friend wanted to trade me a 4X M8 for my 2X, and I thought that a 4X would be even better for my uses. I was wrong, I couldn't seem to hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with the 4X and finally sold it at a loss to be rid of it. If you're going to hunt with it, consider a good red dot like the Ultra Dot. I don't have any first hand experience with the Ultra Dot, but it's been very highly recommended to me by people I trust.
