so i want to make a couple of 5 round mag limiters. can any one post dimensions or materials or how to's? i will be using with 30rd PMAGS or 30rd USGI mags. i would like non-permanent limiters. thanks for any help!

Mag-Pul makes a insert for their 20rd magazines to limit them to either 5 rds or 10 rds depending upon model.
I have made magazine limiters in the past simply by inserting a wooden dowel rod of the appropriate length inside the spring.
With the magazine base removed, load how many rounds you want the magazine limited to, insert the dowel rod and mark where it sticks out of the magazine. Remove the down rod and cut just above that mark. Reassemble the magazine with the dowel rod in the center of the spring and test. You may have to adjust the length slightly to get to the point that you can insert a loaded magazine in the gun with the bolt closed and not be able to load 6 rds in the magazine.
Hope that helps,
John K

I like Magpul's limiters for the P20. My only complaint is that you can not insert the mag with the bolt closed and 5 in it. I think that I will shave a little off because it irritates me.
I really think that we need to make a priority to get the NGPC to do away with round limits. Silly regulation that doesn't do what they think it does, anyway.

In the past I have used the dowel trick and it works just fine.
This year, I ended up buying a five-rounder made by Thermold, and it worked very nicely, being pretty well flush with the magwell.

i think the 900ft/lbs @ 100yds is lame. i would rather see it 900ft/lbs @ the muzzle. sometimes its hard finding ammo that lists ft/lbs @ 100yds on the box.
i will have to try the dowel trick.

I'm a PSA fan.... though shipping is almost the price of the mag. Maybe add a few boxes of Independence 5.56mm 55gr FMJ 20rds @ $5.79 to help take the sting out of the shipping.

i bought some 5rd mags from Cabelas a couple of years ago.... funny thing was you could fit 7 or 8 rounds in it and still load with the BCG closed, so i sold them. i used to used some straight bodied 20rd PMAGS, but now that they are $25 a pop, i sold them too. so now i'm down to my many 30rd'ers and would like to modify them since they are cheap and plentiful.

Ironically, my Thermold five rounders are more like 4 rounders as the sides of the mag bow so badly when loaded with five, it takes real effort to insert the mag into the gun, and it would be a REAL bear to pull it back out fully loaded
-
Take a Bic pen and remove the nib and ink tube.
Insert a brass wood screw of appropriate size into the pen tube where the nib used to be.
Slide the base about 1/2 inch off a 30 round GI mag.
Insert the Bic pen case into the magazine making sure it goes in freely.
Replace the base.
Zero cost. No measuring or cutting.

They're not nicknamed Thermelt for nothing...

that seems pretty easy. do you have any pictures of the the base with the pen installed? is the pen just pinched in place?

Just slip it in and make sure it rides free. Amazingly it does not slip around or fall out of place.

Add in different barrel lengths would be a variable I don't know how to account for.. right?
-
Yeah barrel length matters a ton. I know rob likes to hunt quietly with short firearms so that really mucks up any basaltic chart that is ever posted on a box of ammo.

That's what I thought. Maybe I should just invest in a chrono?

Yeah or find a friend at the range.

I found a friend at the range. I also need to calculate my 3003blk and see if its legal
