Title: Cabela's Open House *August 22, 23* LaVista, NE
Post by: FarmerRick on July 30, 2009, 11:07:43 AM: Cabela's in LaVista is having an open house the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd. They are generously allowing us to have a table at the front of the store to sign up new NFOA members.

Who would like to volunteer to help out for an hour or 2(or more) to sign people up for NFOA membership?

I have the new NFOA banner, so I will be there Saturday morning to help set things up and recruit for a while.

Has anyone ever looked into the possibility of getting some window decals or bumper stickers made with the NFOA logo on them? I think they would be a good way of promoting the group, and maybe even raising a little money. I looked around just a bit this morning on the Internet. It appears we might get some custom made stickers/decals for a very reasonable price. Don't hold me to this, but it appeared we might get a decal with two or three colors the appropriate size for a vehicle window (in various shapes or sizes as needed) for as little as forty cents each if we were to get a thousand or more. Even at a dollar apiece, we could sell them to members for say twice that or something, and actually raise some money.

What does anyone think about that? I know I'd be glad to put one next to my NRA, IWLA, and S&W decals.

Also, some of the board members have taken it upon themselves to purchase some stickers locally out of their own pockets and have been giving them away at various activities to people that have made donations, etc...

I have one on the back of my car and it looks great. Don't have a picture handy here, though.

Dan took the lead on the stickers and I think he still has some.

I've got a couple extras, or just use the link above. I personally haven't seen the stickers from the store yet, though.

Keep in mind guys that we are probably going to be set up next to the gun library according to the event manager who I have been talking with. I think 2 or 3 people working the table at one time is good. I am planning on doing it most of the day on Saturday.

I generally get a little pissed off at people who do that, partly because it's never anything I'd want anyway, and then I have to throw it away somewhere, and partly because most of them end up blowing in the wind and become a litter problem. I'm okay with it though if some of you think it will help our cause.

Has anyone thought about a raffle of some kind? I know Ducks Unliimited and Pheasants Forever and lots of other groups raise money that way. I don't know if Cabela's would have a problem with that or if we could even get anything ready by then, but if not, maybe down the road sometime. Those hunting clubs generally raffle off a shotgun or something.

It does work sometimes and it doesn't piss off that many people otherwise I wouldn't do it. I primarily pick vehicles with NRA or other pro gun stickers on them already.
Keep in mind that this ball is just starting to roll. I'm sure in the future raffles will come into the fold.

I've been talking to them now for 2 months and at this point I understand they are putting us next to the gun library unless that's changed. I am following up with them on Monday to double check.
This should be a good event for us.

Post by: RobertH on August 19, 2009, 10:17:54 PM: im not sure if this thread is dead yet or not, but i was at cabelas tuesday to get a credit card. i noticed one thing.... they had a TON of 7.62x39mm ammo. i mean tons of it. they were all 500 bulk packages of Wolf Military Classic. i think it was $155 per 500 if i remember right. is that a good deal? even though i think its steel cased, i think im gonna pick up maybe two of them.

they had some .223 and 5.56 ammo, but it was more expensive than scheels. i also noticed they had a few AR's and other tactical guns.

just in case anyone wanted to know.

Met FarmerRick, LitlRat, and Huskergun, who were working the table, and JimP stopping by to visit as I did. Looked like they had a pretty nice pile of signups filled out already, and the place was really hoppin'. Seemed like there was at least one person signing up pretty much all the time while I was there. Good job guys.

I picked up a box of 45ACP and some 38sp, too. They had a good assortment of both, and quite a bit on the shelves. I appeared they were out of 9mm, or at least target practice priced 9mm. I also got one of the nicer, round NFOA stickers, and I'm going out to clean off a spot on my bumper for it right now.

I would be there before 10am. I think they are given some things away to the first 100 people through the door.

Post by: SBarry on August 22, 2009, 10:56:44 PM: We had four people talking to and signing up members, and sometimes that was not enough. At one time, we had eight new members signing up at once. It took a while to get more members than donated dollars, but we finally passed it around 6 p.m.

People are starting to realize what is at stake, and what we have to gain or lose, depending on our actions. Go get 'em!

Due to the low number of sign ups today, we decided to draw one winner from Saturday and one from Sunday.

I know what it is like to have a rough day in recrutiing, but 43 is great, maybe there will be that one special member who you guys signed up who will take the ball and run with it, it may turn out to be a 1000 member boost.

Kearney is having one of these next weekend. I will contact the store and see if I can get a table for saturday, anyone want to help out?

Just got off the phone with LitlRat, Cabela's in Kearney has given him a table to sign up new members this weekend. He's needing some help on saturday, tough for one person to do it alone, and if a couple people would like to volunteer for Sunday as well, that would be great.

I also run with loaded firearms at the range!

The picture above is from a dinner pic thread my wife and I did for Arfcom GD. The firearms in the pic were unloaded and the glass actually has iced tea in it. The meds were prescription Mucinex. I'm pretty strict about not mixing booze and guns.
