I wonder what the interest is in a get together the week before the super bowl? Either some kind of meal or a swap meet? I really don't have any well thought out idea....It just seems there isn't much "activity" in being an NFOA member.
I was thinking maybe a literature based swap meet, old hunting and fishing magazines,Jeff Cooper books,How-to books on reloading, whatever. We could have the NFOA rent the space and maybe have a $1 per ticket raffle with a CCW class as the prize. Even if you have a CCW license the class would make a great gift. The excess money raised would hopefully pay for the rental of the space. A meal could be done similar to the Grand Island meeting, prepay catering; or perhaps the "FOOD COMMITTEE" could come up with something.hehe I'd bet there are some cooks around here too. I'm proud of my chili and could show up with a couple gallons. Maybe just a "Bring a side dish" kinda deal (I envision 73 different kinds of deer sausage)
The above is a poorly written, somewhat rambling, idea starter. I am willing to back it up with hours of work and am volunteering now to be a laborer.
RJ Please jump in with any ideas,I have thick skin ;D

Some great ideas RJ.
-
Might be a good idea, if enough people are interested. The Izaak Walton clubhouse in Lincoln is available for rental. Plus, if we decide to brave the cold we could go shoot :D
-
I was thinking of the Lincoln IKE's club also.
After all the setup we did for GI last Sept, I thought a pot luck dinner would have been a good idea
-
Pot luck sounds great.
-
Sounds like fun.
-
OK we have a snowball shoot at the Ike's, and rj is in charge of setting it up. Folks lets step up and help out rj cann't put it together alone.
Potluck sounds good. if we can get enough members to say they will be there I fully support the NFOA seeing if it can rent the space at the Ike's. I have some ideas for some fundraising items to help cover costs so if we have a couple of members to get things going this is on.
-
What date (I don't really follow the football much) ? Got a few things goin on, but would love to see us get together more. and if time allows, I could help out.
Some Ideas of my own: Pot luck plus a small 'cover charge' like a buck or 2 for members.
Bring a non member for recruiting. Kids? maybe some safety seminars for the younger kids?
-
Brian, can you get us an estimate for rental of the club?
-
The daily rental fee is $500, according to the newsletter. Also says the hall will seat 300.
-
OUCH
-
I'll have a keg at my house, no rental fees.
Last time 5 people showed up. Too bad I live so far west.
I do know where there is an empty house near Elkhorn we could all party in.
-
rent on that house would be more than Ike's.
-
How about a class for the wives?
They never listed to their husband, but might to someone else.
( I know, blanket statement. sorry)
-
I can bring two of the seventy some types of home made deer sausage.
-
Here is the info copied and pasted from Ikes web site. Perhaps the Ikes could be the host so we would have complete access to the shooting range (s). I know there are a few of us that are already members of Ikes.
A couple of bucks per head sounds like a good idea. Maybe the same weekend as the Lincoln gun show. Jan 29th. Might help draw a better crowd.
Clubhouse Rental:
Clubhouse, food serving area and beverage service are available for a daily rental fee of $500.00 A refundable damage deposit is required during the party. Seating is for 300 and a full beverage service is available. Perfect for receptions, class reunions, anniversaries, birthdays or office parties. Members and other non-profit organizations may receive up to 50% discounts on a rental by contacting Wes (402)466-9040
-
Shoot Wes Sheets an email wsheets@radiks.net and ask about rate.
NFOA is non-profit so $250 should be the rate...... Of course access to the shooting ranges for non-members might be a sticking point with them. They may want the $10 guest fee for any non-members shooting there.
-
I'll give Wes a call and see if we can work something out. This sounds like it could be a fun day.
-
boo yah! this sounds like fun! i hope i can go.
is there anyway we could do some tournament maybe? maybe some full auto fun?
-
no full auto at Ikes
-
no full auto at Ikes
No full auto? Why that's just un-American. :-)

Can't holsterize either.
-
If I am not mistaken they even cringe at rapid fire strings of semi auto.

Did this thread die? There is no football the 30th of Jan. (a Sunday). ???

There is something else schedualed for the Ikes that weekend, we will continue to pursue this idea though it will need to later.
-
Ok here's an Idea.
We have a potluck on Sunday February 27th at the Ike?s in Lincoln. The Ike?s has an air gun soot in the morning so we would start showing up at Noon with Lunch (Potluck) to start about 1:00 (this allows air gun competitors to join us) and then after lunch the air gun folks can offer an accuracy shooting challenge on the indoor range. There would be other opportunities for shooting on the outdoor ranges weather permitting. There would need to be a small donation to the NFOA for people to participate, this would be to cover the costs to the Ike?s for cleanup and use of the facilities. We may also have a silent auction as a fundraiser as well, I have some autographed books and we may be able to come up with a few other items.
We then can follow this up with a Gun Owners visit the Legislature day the following day (Monday, Feb. 28th)
Well do folks think of this?
-
Sounds good Andy. Maybe if Wes is there maybe he could address the party as a membership recruitment opportunity of Ikes. Has anyone ever talked to Scheels to perhaps donate something and maybe put flyer's there like the CCW trainers and Shriners do? We could use this as a recruitment tool for the NFOA as well.
-
I agree that this sounds like a good plan. I have asked for the day off on Feb 28th
-
Sounds really good to me - not sure if I can attend yet or not.
By the way - if you're not already, talk to Mike Kunkee at the Ike's about the air gun stuff. He runs the monthly air gun silhouette shoot.
