Title: RCBS Jr 2 restoration
Post by: unfy on February 25, 2022, 02:53:57 AM
Was gifted an RCBS Jr 2 press.

It had been ignored for some time.

Did some clean up and got'er working again.

A few notes:

The aluminum primer catch tray probably isn't for the press.  I'll eventually buy or do my own 3D printed primer catch thing that's available online.

The press is mounted to the little board via some carriage bolts recessed into it, and then the board is held the bench via 3 other bolts.  A 2-1/8th inch hole was put into the board and then the board trimmed to about only a half circle hole left.  This adds some rigidity.  The little board is 5/4 decking, I think ?

I sized and de-primed the 308 shown in the pic with no probs (alcohol/lanolin lube seems great, too).

See, i'm not sure if i just put a rubber band over it, or what.... for holding it in place.  i don't think i've got the cross member that goes across the two posts.

Granted, when I do the 3d printed primer catcher thing it won't really matter... but still ... it'd be nice to make it usable heh.

A day to clean.  Overnight in evaporust.  Paint stripper.  make sure to thoroughly clean things (see also my paint flaking a bit or something)... a few days for painting unless ya are better at painting than I am :D .... and yeah.  It's nice.

was just looking at this again.

does it say JR 2 press on it? cause that sure dont look like a jr.

a JR is a C type press, the frame is shaped like a letter C

the press in the pic is a O type press, the frame is solid all the way around, as in the post behind the primer arm,

looks more like a rock chucker to me,    a much heavier and better press,
