Title: My new BCM 16" middy
Post by: Famous556 on July 16, 2010, 05:41:23 PM
Check it out!  Just got it yesterday....  16"bbl with a mid length gas system.  BCM is having a huge sale on these uppers so I decided it was the time to buy, it's on a DPMS lower with a magpul CTR stock.  Still waiting on a back up sight thats in the mail, can't wait to shoot this thing  8) ;D .

I plan to just put the back up sight and then an EOTech on a YHM riser mount.

So what do ya think?

BCM is a very high quality manufacturer and now that they have become more available would be first on my wish list, but I don't need any more AR15's, really...I mean it this time

Thanks for the kind words fellas, and Dan, the time is now! You could get a BCM blem lower and add the bcg and charging handle and handguards and have a complete rifle for about 900$.  That is a screaming deal and IMO the best value out there right now.  There's some real good deals on a lot of different black rifles right now.  I've been eyeing this upper for a long while and when I got the sale email I had to pounce!

I'm glad you can fight the urge Dan.  I know I sure am having a hard time.  I would really like to get a BCM 12.5" BFH upper.  Anybody know how the CLEO of Douglas county feels about NFA guns  ;D.

Good stuff, I really like the mid-length. Wish my 'go to' M4orgery wasn't so dependable, then I could justify replacing it with a middy.

Why do you need a riser mount for the Eotech?

Thanks for the kind words.

Well, I dont need a riser mount for it, and I've never used an EOTech before with a fixed front sight, but I dont think I'll like the idea of the front sight always being right in the way of the recticle.  The riser would make it so you could still use the BUIS and the EOtech and the front sight if you look through the sights, but when your not the front sight will be out of the way.  I wont buy the riser until I try it beacuse I may in fact like it... but it's on my consider list.

Very nice stick!

I have a LaRue Tactical EOTech riser mount. I'll let you try it out sometime if you want to go shooting at the same time. I do have a flip-up front sight but you can leave it flipped up to try and get an idea for what your sight picture will look like if you want.

Thanks Sean!  That sounds good, I've been to The Bullet Hole before with a different rifle but don't really like going there all too much with a rifle because of the limited distance (obviously) with an indoor range.  I'll send you a PM next time I'm thinking about going and we'll see about meeting up sometime.

I bought an EOTech 512 yesterday and sighted it in, still no BUIS, should be here tomorrow.  I got to FINALLY shoot this thing though, man is is a sweet.  My other AR is a carbine and you can definetly tell a difference in the two, the mid-length just feels so much more smooth and positive.  I shot some PMC and some Hornady TAP training (steel case).  In all about 200 rounds through it today with zero problems (not that I'm surprised).  I've got it zeroed at 50 yards, which also gives a zero at 200 meters and doesn't let the point of impact move beyond 2" from point of aim from 0-250 meters IIRC.  Once I get it 100% dialed in I'll post up some pictures and see how well she can group (more like how well I can shoot it, since I'm sure the rifle is way more accurate than I am).  It's turning out to be my new favorite gun!

I've been looking into getting that same upper for my next build; 1/7 twist?

Either way, looks good.

Middies are the way to go if you are using a 16" barrel. I use a EOTech 512 with an Accucam on mine, and I have no issues co-witnessing with the front sight.

Yes BCM uses 1/7 twist in all of their barrels except for the stainless ones which I believe are 1/8.  Also they chrome line the chamber and bore (again not sure about stainless) and do everything else the right way as it should be.  BCM parts are a good price and they make some of the finest AR15 rifles and parts available today.

And Dan, I was thinking about getting the riser because I was unsure about how I would like the EOtech with the front sight post in the middle of the window, I thought it would get in the way.  Now that I've shot the rifle plenty with the EOtech, I don't even notice the front sight post unless I flip up the rear and use it.

I'll update here with more current pictures when I take some.
