nope just looking for good suggestions. i have a gift card burning a hole in my pocket over here.
i've got a mossberg 500 i've only popped off a couple shots of some crap loads i bought at time of purchase a long time back. it's due time i start stocking some ammo for this gun too.

Good article on comparative loads / gauges / performance... As has been noted already, if you live in a thin wall residence, stay away from slugs. Buckshot loads usually come in 5-packs. You can get an assortment or brands and run some performance tests for cycle, patterning at set ranges, cleanliness of shell.

I've done some testing and articles myself. My favorite is Federal FliteControl 00 Buck. It holds together better than any other round that I've tested. I think I've posted several of the results photos in here in times past.

Some folks think that a low recoil 9 pellet 00-buck is good. Others want slugs. Others want some #1 bird shot. Some folks want a mix of shells in the magazine / side car.
I'm personally a fan of some 3" magnum 12-15 pellet 00buck-ish. Kicks like a mule, though. Make sure to practice with this heavy of a load on occasion so that you're semi-used to how it behaves.
I don't subscribe to multiple shell types in the magazine. That requires extra thought during bad situation, no thanks.

Several years ago when I purchased a Benelli Nova tactical pump action shotgun, I ordered 6 boxes of Remington 00 buck 3 1/2" magnums, really don't see a use for them except punishing the shooter.

As an aside 20 ga 00 buck is about the equivalent of 8 115gr 9 mm rounds with a lot less recoil. Also +1 with mud on the Fed Flightcontrol. Was able to abscond a few sleeves of this from a LEO source. Awesome stuff.

I run 2 00 buck then a slug, and finish off with more 00 buck.
Keep 4 00 buck and 1 slug on the "side car" as you put it.
Never had to use and hope I never do. But it does a real job on cardboard, raccoons and oppossums.
