Title: Hello All
Post by: Wildgoose on January 23, 2009, 08:56:43 PM
This is my first post on this forum. For the past few years I have been into home building AK platform weapons. One of which I did as an SBR NFA project. I am interested in a little back and forth on the NFA side of things with anyone in the area that is into the same game. I really dont have any idea as to how many NFA oweners are around in these parts. All of my information and interaction has been on the  various firearm forums out on the net so far. That is how I found out about home building and got started in the hobby. Any takers?

While AKs don't do much for me. There are plenty of NFA owners in Nebraska but we are spread wide from Iowa to Wyoming so get togethers only happen a couple times a year with smallish turnouts.

Thanks for the note Dave. I was interested in just where the NFA scene was here in the midwest. The AK building is by far only a small part of my firearms and shooting interests but did lead me to become the owner of an NFA weapon. Up to now contact or discussion with other owners has been with floks that live in very diffrent areas than here. Any concerns, issues or advice based on Nebraska laws if I were to desire to expand my NFA ownership?

No NFA problem areas here in Nebraska except Lincoln/Lancaster Co. residents ususally have to go the trust or Corporate route  as for adjacent states KS is good to go for NFA now, silencers are legal for hunting in NE, if you want got MO you must at least have a C+R license, no playing with any stuff in Iowa, Wyoming and Co both ok.

Last year the Kearney shoot went for 1 day after a few years off, I hope it goes back to it's old glory.  There are some FUDD ranges that have problems with NFA.  We do have an IPSC style subgun match in the Scottslbuff area in June.

You can goto my website and pick up a lot of NFA information in general off the web.  http://myweb.cableone.net/uziforme/index.htm (http://myweb.cableone.net/uziforme/index.htm)

Also there is a Nebraska NFA collectors group on Facebook, not inclusive at all of the many shooters but some.

Last year I built myself a 10.5" AR.  That's all I've got for NFA.  F/A would be great but just can't afford something like that.  I think a suppressor for my AR would be my next NFA purchase.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is what I was looking for. Some kind of feedback from others that have been involved with NFA ownership here in Nebraska. I will follow up on the listed sites. Any and all information is welcome.
Thanks

David, just curious for those of us living in lincoln/lancaster.  Why is it such a problem area? I am going to venture a guess that it's because Chief Tom won't sign the papers?

If so how does a Lincolnite go about getting a NFA Firearm or item?  If you are not a trust or a company, that is.

Well a Lincolnite can either have a secondary address like a vacation or family home in another jurisdiction. The trust or Corp. route is available, which bypasses the need for the CLEO.

Or the last final resort is to know that secret handshake that gets you the signature.

So, if my family owns a house somewhere else, I can get that CLEO to sign it?  Reguardless of my actually "home" address?

Where every you live somewhere permanant or temporary, that is your residence. Be that a college dormitory, a station at a military base, a vacation home, a motel you stay at routinely as a traveling sales person.  If you parents have a homestead somewhere and you do not spend time living there then it is not a temporary residence.

Just because you live somewhere permanant or temporary does not mean the CLEO will sign off for you. You are going to have to contact them yourself.

Gah, I might as well go be a cop for a year at least then I might have a shot at getting one.

I don't think being a cop teaches you the secret handshake needed in Lincoln, NE if that is what you were implying.

Just go the trust route. Some class 3 dealers will help you out with the paperwork. No fingerprints, no CLEO sign off, just fill it out, get it notarized, pay the fee for setting up the trust (mine was $50), pay for your item and the $200 tax stamp, and you are good to go.

Then sit back and forget about it for a while, mine took 6 months for ATF approval.

I am honestly appalled that Cassidy can get away with this.  how in the heck does this guy still have his job???

it's not that I can't do the trust route, but come on man, that's just dense.

Did I miss something here? Is Chief C not signing off on NFA permits or something else?

As far as I can tell, Cassidy has never signed off on them.

I only know of two people with NFA pieces in Lincoln, I'll see if I can locate them and ask how they got it done...

I have never transferred a NFA device into Lincoln with a Cassidy signature.
