Title: e-file a form 1 suppressor
Post by: orion on August 20, 2015, 07:51:57 PM
Greetings all! I've been lurking around here for a while and have question.

Has anyone e-filed a form 1 suppressor?

Yep, I've done a couple.  It's fun to do, but just a word of advice, if you're doing it to save money you're probably on a wild goose chase.  If you want to do it for the challenge and because you like building things I say go for it.
My next can will be a Silencerco Harvester :)

Thanks for the replies :)

I like challenges and building things too. The big plus is I work in manufacturing so it shouldn't be to tuff.

I've e-filed an SBR and that went flawlessly but what I'm trying to figure out how to add a form 1 suppressor to my trusts assignment pages for Make, Model & S/N for e-filing. Would the make be FMI, model be what ever I wanted to call it or would it be suppressor and the S/N I understand is what ever I give it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry about the delay, been on the road and then I forgot about this.  I just have my trust name as the manufacturer and whatever I picked out as the model and serial number.

I submitted an e-form for my form 1 suppressor tonight.

As of now it is in a state of "PENDING RESEARCH"...the clock starts.

I know I'm late to the party, but 'what he said'. I made up a Ser # & Model # FBHO...j/k

You CAN save money rolling your own, going the 'maglite' route for example. However, once you research it the desire to upgrade is very strong. I ended up with a titanium tube for weight and still came in well under $300 (not including the stamp of course.) But that was a benefit, not really the point.

The cool thing is my homemade can is just as effective as my commercial cans.

This build has a 8" Ti tube, end cap and thread protector. Baffles will be formed freezer plugs. Shooting for 15 of them inside the tube.

Got the Ti from SD Tactical Arms (http://www.sdtacticalarms.com/). I like to get my MSR parts from places like that..vet owned and operated.

15 seems like a lot for 8" how big is your blast chamber? Are you using a standard design? Havent done alot of research on the freeze plug supressors.

Blast chamber will be 1.5"

Here's a link to the drawing below by Weber http://sdtacticalarms.boards.net/post/291 (http://sdtacticalarms.boards.net/post/291)

Doing a trial fit, with my unformed FP, only 13 will fit allowing for a 1.5" blast chamber. I might need to trim the integral baffle "spacer" to get the other two in there.

how are you bending your frost plugs?
what shell do you intend to fire thru this?

300Blk mainly but have the ability to go 5.56.

FP forming. All forming will be done on a 3 ton arbor press. Make a jig to hold the FP and two forming punches; a 45* punch that will be used first then a 60* punch. I want to end up with a 60* cone at the end but I'm afraid that trying to get the desired angle all in one shoot may stress the FP to much causing it to tear. After forming to the desired cone angle chuck it up in a lathe and center bore it too .375". I may have to center bore them first before forming if they want to tear while forming. I'll use a 1/8" drill for that if needed.

Depending on how many formed FP will fit in the tube I may have to chuck them up in a lathe and shorten up the skirt to get more into the stack.

Just got an e-mail from the ATF, its status has changed to "SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS" though on their web site it has stated that for 4 weeks now ;)
