Title: Looks like I am done on Facebook
Post by: newfalguy101 on February 23, 2015, 06:30:34 PM
Its seems Facebook has "updated" something and is no longer going to allow usernames, well they will as long as the "username" looks like a "real name"

For years and years all you heard about internet safety was " Don't use your real name or location"

Apparently its OK for stalkers and other assorted nutjobs to find you on "facebook"

Anyway. seems I am done, unless I opt to use  "real looking" name

IMHO, Facebook isn't a safe site and its owner is too controlling and limits speech and activities he disagrees with.  Other businesses are not allowed to do that (If they are not politically correct).  I cancelled my account about 3 or 4 years ago.   If you do cancel your account you'll have to be careful that you don't inadvertently click a blue FB button on ANY site or FB will automatically re-activate your account.  BTW, any photos or post you made to FB, even though you deleted them, are not really deleted and FB owns all rights to them for any use they wish.  G+ has the same policy.  It's NOT a good idea to post family photos, birthdays, or other personal info.  Especially your address or phone number, and certainly don't brag about future trips, and the dates, you'll be taking.

Well put.  I never have had an account and don't plan on doing so now.  It's hard enough to keep a shred of privacy online anyway.
Gotta go tighten up my tin foil hat now

I seriously considered just ( in effect) telling them to pound sand and not make up a new username ( that sounds like it *could* be "authentic" ), however, my daughters page is still there along with her memorial page, and those are worth the pain in the hiney Facebook has become.

Yeah...there in lies the rub.  This is how the younger crowd communicates, IF you can call it that.  Important things like your daughter's memorial page, or pictures of grandchildren are things we will have to live without unless we find a way to live in this electronic age.  Sucks, but that's where the world is headed.

Facebook's new (1/1/2015) TOS allows FB to track all your browsing on the web AND using the GPS in your device to track your physical location and to access the content on ANY device you use to access FB. Most people are sheep and agree to the TOS without reading it.
I suspect that the NSA loves the new terms.

I know FB tracks your usage, they utilize it to market to you on an individual basis. Here is why I am not concerned:

I have been sober for over 2 years, and FB is still trying to sell me on alcohol.

They are a little behind the times. And at least Facebook spells it out for those who are willing to read. Think about the websites that don't tell you they are tracking you...

I "liked" rachel maddow and GLAD on facebook, and bought a rainbow bumper sticker on amazon, so I have nothing to worry about now.
