So, moon rocks, rocks attributed to be from our lunar cousin, have water in them, that is an exact match with rocks that are here on earth.

I'm kinda confused.
Water is water. H2O.
How exactly where they thinking the water was going to be 'different' ? Were they guessing maybe 2H2O (heavy water) ?
I dunno.... water is water.

AFAIK, yes. Requires some simple filtration / processing ... but isn't a huge ordeal AFAIK.
