A friend of mine is insisting, that I could, if I wished... Walk around and openly carry my AR-15.
Obviously, this sounds like a REALLY bad idea on paper and I have no intentions of doing it... I was just curious if this is actually legally allowed. I imagine that within 2 minutes I would have like 20+ phone calls to the police about a "scary man" carrying an "AK-47" (lol).
Just wondered what kind of firearms our open carry laws include. Thanks!

Sec. 20-195. Possession or transportation of firearms.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly or purposely transport in any conveyance or in any other manner, or to possess off his own premises, any rifle, shotgun, air gun, air rifle, paint ball gun or machine gun unless the same is unloaded and contained in any enclosed gun case, or unloaded and broken down. The removal of the bolt from any such firearm or carrying the same in a holster type gun case without further breaking down such firearm shall not be deemed to be in compliance with the requirements of this section.
(b) The provisions of this section shall not be applicable to:
(1) Authorized law enforcement officers;
(2) The armed forces of the United States, including ROTC units and the National Guard in the performance of their duties;
(3) The carrying of unloaded and uncased rifles in parades or using rifles in ceremonials;
(4) The possession of rifles, machine guns, or shotguns at shows or exhibits; or
(5) Any other lawful use, purpose or activity, including but not limited to skeet and trap shooting, target shooting at rifle ranges, hunter safety instruction conducted by qualified instructors, when such do not endanger public safety or are detrimental to public welfare; provided, however:
a. The prior approval of the police chief shall have been obtained for such use, purpose or activity; and
b. With respect to skeet and trap shooting ranges located or to be located in public parks, the final determination of the safety of the same shall be made by the city council.

How about in Nebraska in general?

Not a good idea.
Outside of Omaha, there is no law against it.... So technically you could drive around with your AR sitting out in the open in your car...... Of course you will not like the attention you get if stopped by the Police

Location, Location, Location.
I carry my AR loaded in the front seat of my pickup whenever I feel the need. You never know when you will get a chance to shoot a coyote, badger or skunk.

Used to be fairly common to see pickup trucks with guns in the rack in the back window. The law hasn't changed AFAIK, the practice just has fallen out of favor, it seems.

That practice now says "see what I have that you could easily steal.
Maybe 30 years ago a guy could do that. Now, with drugs running too many people's lives, that is like advertising a free high.

Just not in the city of Omaha.
Long arms must be broken down and cased by city ordinance. Nothing in state law would prevent it any where else in the state though

Those photos are surreal. Is the M16 considered to be a fashion accessory in Israel? I know the Israelis are required to serve in their military. I have seen plenty of photos of young women carrying arms in uniform, but not in civilian clothes. What gives?

Israel has only a Carry permit. Anyone can get a permit if they think they have a need to open carry. You can see isrealies carrying everywhere. Most of these females are in the IDF in these photos. Soldiers are required to keep there weapon at all times during those two years, even when their in civvies.

Also, Israelis don't have to serve in the military. In fact most of the religous people tend to some other public service for two years. They just have to serve for two years somewhere.

Wow you're right, those pics are surreal. I cant help but thinking if I walked around lincoln like that I'd be missing a few teeth from pave-burn courtesy of LPD.
