Eastern Nebraska Gun Club will be hosting the June USPSA Action Pistol match on the 7th!
Important note: We are strictly enforcing our registration policy. Anyone showing up after 8:30AM will not be allowed to shoot the match! Please show up early to help setup!
Online Pre-Registration: https://clubs.practiscore.com/enps-june-2015-uspsa-match/register (https://clubs.practiscore.com/enps-june-2015-uspsa-match/register)
Please note that you must show up prior to 8:30AM to pay and sign in with match staff even if you pre-register!
Online Payment is available here: http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/schedule.html (http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/schedule.html) (There is a 3% surcharge to cover credit card fees)
Match Fee: $15.
Schedule Is As Follows:
- Setup will start at 7:15AM. We appreciate any help we can get with setup. The more people we have, the faster we can get shooting!
- Registration closes at 8:30AM but you definitely want to show up sooner if you can. We will, as always, do our best to accommodate squadding requests but your chances are exponentially better at getting those requests fulfilled if you register online or show up very early on match day!
- Safety and New Shooter Briefing begins at 8:30AM.
- Shooters’ Meeting starts at 9:00AM.
- Match begins immediately following the Shooters’ Meeting.
Equipment You Will Need:
- A handgun chambered in 9x19mm or larger.
- A holster for your handgun. It is highly recommended you get one designed specifically for your gun and not a universal holster.
- Extra magazines. You will have to reload on the clock. Belt-mounted magazine pouches are also a great addition as they will significantly speed up your reload time and allow you to more easily carry magazines. If you need to, you can put mags in an appropriate pocket for your division (Do NOT put magazines in a front pocket if you intend to shoot production or any other division that stipulates magazine placement! This will put you into Open!)
- Plenty of ammunition. It never hurts to have “too much” ammo. While you may not use every round, I always recommend a couple hundred rounds (in case of necessary reshoots or "make up shots").
Not sure what division you have the equipment for [see Appendix D]? Want to get more in-depth with the rules? Read more here: http://www.uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2014/Feb%202014%20Handgun%20Rules.pdf (http://www.uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2014/Feb%202014%20Handgun%20Rules.pdf)

If you have any questions please reply to this thread or PM me!
Should be a really fun match, as always! Hope to see you all at the range!

Nope.
Now, you'll probably WANT to become a USPSA member after you try it. :) But no, you do not need to be a USPSA member to shoot the match. When you register using the online link, put "PENDING" in the box where it wants your member number.

Thank you. After I posted the question I went online and registered to become a member.

Do we have to register online, or can we register in person at ENGC before the match? I've never shot USPSA before and don't know all the terms/divisions/etc.

You can register in person. What gun, caliber, sights, and holster style will you be using? And do you want to be limited to 10 rounds in a magazine or not?

You can register in person, but it is easier on staff if you pre-register, so we prefer it if you can do it online. :)
For divisions, I'd check out the rules I linked earlier, which is here: http://www.uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2014/Feb%202014%20Handgun%20Rules.pdf (http://www.uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2014/Feb%202014%20Handgun%20Rules.pdf) (Appendix D, page 82)

Ruger LC9, iron sights, Crossbreed IWB holster. I have some 9-round mags and 7-round mags.
I also have a friend with a Colt Delta Elite 10mm single-action iron sights (basically a 1911), who might be joining. He's never shot USPSA either.

How many mags do you have Mott? If you run production 3,4,5 or not mag changes. Production is 106 round capacity. And most guys carry 5 or 6 mags

Given that you don't have any mags that even hold more than 10 rounds, you might as well shoot Production division. You can certainly shoot from an IWB if you like (though if you have a decent OWB holster I would suggest using it)---and remember you do NOT have to shoot from concealment in USPSA. (Matter of fact, we encourage you NOT to do so. :) There are enough other things to worry about without making it even harder.)
You are going to want to use as many of your 9-round mags as you can...the 7-round ones will make your life a bit more difficult.
In Production, the big thing to remember is that (in addition to mag limits of 10 rounds) all the equipment and gear (holsters, mag pouches, etc) must be behind your hip bones---and you are going to need to carry probably five mags. If you don't have that many mag pouches, for your first match use all you have and drop a couple of extras into your back pocket. (Not your front pocket.)
....you know, I have a basic competition rig for a G19 (gun, holster, mag pouches, and mags) if you want to borrow it for a match. If you use factory ammo, you are welcome to try it that way. I remember you from IDPA, so I know you won't run off with my gear. :)

If it is a single-action, AND the holster is legal for the division, Single Stack is where he'd be shooting.
As Sean said, use the rules link and go to Appendix D starting on page 82 to see what division your gun/gear will fit into.
In general, you are going to want to (bare minimum) be able to carry 40 rounds on your body for any particular stage. Note: That may not be enough, but it'll get you through most. I'll note that I normally carry 60, and have been known to carry 70 (7 mags) on a long involved stage where extra reloads would save me time.
I'm crazy, though, so bear that in mind, too. :)

Thanks for the info guys. I only have 4 mags, 2 9-rounders and 2 7-rounders, and I don't have mag pouches at all, I always stuff extras under my belt.
And sounds like my friend only has 3 mags for his 1911. We might have to borrow if someone's willing.
Regardless of equipment, I'm sure my first match will be horrible, so I'm not too concerned. Just think how many hostages died at IDPA before I got it figured out... This will give me a feel for USPSA and then I'll know what to expect next time.

Even if you aren't a USPSA member, you can still use the USPSA scores link to see how you did. In addition, there is a Practiscore link to a different method of reporting scores. Both of these are linked on the ENPS website that Mudnrox listed above.

thunt, mott555, did you guys have fun at the match?

It was a lot of fun. I had a hard time remembering where all the targets were. But I did ok hitting the ones I tempered.

Those were some pretty good and challenging stages! Great match! Glad to see some newcomers also!
-
Yeah, it was a lot of fun, though I feel a little sun-baked today.
If anyone feels bad about how well they shot, I was the guy who dumped 5 mags on the star on stage #1 and only got 1 - 2 of the steel plates, and had to end the stage early because I ran out of mags. Last place, it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it.
I foresee a better gun in my future if I want to do more USPSA. My little LC9 isn't a problem at IDPA Nebraska when we're typically at pretty short range, but these stages had a lot more targets and longer distances than I'm used to. Might be time to finally get a 1911...
