Mine revolve mostly around USPSA:
1. Move up a classification. For me this means working on speed. I may not be the best bulls-eye shooter out there but I can shoot pretty well until I hear that timer.
2. Get more involved. The more I have been involved has payed off in spades, first stage I set up, CF as it was, I learned more about strategy than in 8 matches. There is a lot of experience to be shared if you are listening.
3. Hit a match beyond the local ones, should be easy this year. ;)
-
I just want to actually make it to a 3 gun match this year. I missed every. Single. One. In 2012 :(
Hopefully life will be a little more cooperative in 2013.

To become the best USPSA shooter in the country, but I would settle for moving up one, two or three classifications.

I'ld like to finish my rifle build and see how far i can reliably stretch it.

I would like attend a couple steel and USPSA matches this year. Would also like to get my wife to shoot a match or two.
-
I'd like to:
1) Shoot to my capability level at major USPSA matches, and
2) Get above 90% of possible points (including penalties) during local USPSA matches, and
3) Break 10 seconds on Smoke & Hope (by timer, not including flight time). Got 10.20 last year---need to drop that by 0.2 seconds.
Last year, I only did #1 once (out of four times) and I don't think I made #2 more than once or twice. I just rush too much, and drop a few too many points. I keep getting between 85-89%. [grumble]
More dryfire practice!

ARG! And just blew goal #2 already with the first match of the year---89.15% of the total possible points. [sigh]
I have GOT to slow down. Had my 3 D-hits been 3 C-hits instead, I'd have made my goal. Even if TWO of them had been C-hits...well, drat.
Okay, NEW version of goal!
Goal #2: Make 90% + of total possible points for all local matches EXCEPT for the first one.

You seem to be well on your way, considering you got third in Production in the match today as a D-class, beating out 5 C-class shooters! (Including a couple that are more than halfway to B-class.)

March 17th. Be there!!

Make B in USPSA, C is certainly attainable.
Participate in Sectionals, Area 3 and Nationals.
Learn more about IDPA and shoot some of the matches.
Break 100/100 in trap. Best is 87
Win high gun for my class at Ikes
Work with the entire family at trap shooting.
Continue training for a half-marathon. Was going to run the Lincoln half but the all classifier match is the same day.
Dry fire several times a week.

Well first classifier of the year and I hit .4 % below the threshold. It will knock off one of my lower scores though. 1 shot 1 inch over and I would have felt like a rockstar. (assuming my maths are correct)

I just realized today that I have enough shotgun shells on hand to shoot one, maybe two matches. I'm set on 9mm and 223 but if things don't change 12ga is going to be a problem.

1. Earn a B classification in Limited.
2. Break 25.00 seconds total on Outer Limits.
3. Spend a full, focused minute on mental preparation before every stage.
4. Finish a match without a single Grade A, bonehead, "Oh F--- me!" moment.
5. Bring at least three new people to their first organized pistol shoot.

There was an interesting thread on a different forum a couple of days ago, asking what people had as criteria for a "good" match. In other words, when were they happy with a match? Happy with their skills and performance?
Here's what I wrote:
I'm happy with a match when I shoot it to my ability at that time.
I'm not satisfied with my current ability at any point in time.
There is a big difference between those two things.
If I shoot a match consistently at my current level, I did exactly what I was supposed to---the practice I put in paid off, and my discipline was sufficient to make it happen. That's a good match.
My current ability at any point in time can always use improvement. Therefore, I'm not satisfied with my current level, and will continue to work on making that current level higher.
I am happier when I have a match with no penalties whatsoever, and a minimum of D-hits. (Preferably zero.) However, that wouldn't necessarily make me happy with the match itself, unless the rest of the it (speed, efficiency, stage handling, etc) also consistently was at my ability level.
And again---none of that would make me satisfied with my current level of ability.
---winning is fun. But if I win but shoot at a level significantly below what I'm capable of, I'm not happy about it. If I don't win, but shoot consistently to what I'm capable of, I'm perfectly thrilled with that.
Some people are driven to be the best, or the fastest---which means that they will always compare themselves to other people. Personally, I want to be the best that I can manage.
Some people go to matches just for the social atmosphere, a little shooting at new things, and to have fun. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Some people do it to work on goals to get better, and it is just a different way of thinking. (Some people do it to WIN, and that's fine too.)
One of the things that I like about shooting matches is that everyone (with their differing backgrounds, goals, and expectations) can still all have a completely good time. :)

I want to start. I'd likely be last place though

Most all of us started there. Some people stay there, but they still enjoy the snot out of the competition.
Come out and try it. You WILL be hooked!

I bought two pneumatic air rifles (.17 and .22, both with scopes) so that my two grandsons, 7 and 11, and I can go shooting at the Ikkes shooting range! 8)

Getting decent loads worked up for my LR308 and Mod.70 in 300 Win.
Finishing a upper build if upper receivers and BCG`s ever come available again.

To start competing
Have fun
Oh, and no DQs

Lol me too Race, but first I need to win the lottery and then I can afford more ammo and range time, planning on winnning it soon.
Actually I know I would love the heck out of IDPA or USPSA matches and I want to get involved over at Bigshots since its less than a mile from me. Just need to give myself a kick in the pants to make it happen.

Get on over to BigShots and DO IT! There are many of us that are willing to help any new shooters. All you have to do is take it slow at first and be safe. No shame in learning the game and increasing your speed as you get experience.

My goal for 2013 is to shoot a qualifying score in the Swiss rifle matches. I came close last year, but not close enough.

Since it's the end of 2013, I thought I'd resurrect this 2013 Goals thread.
I achieved all of my goals stated above. It was one heck of a growth year, and I'm putting together some aggressive goals for 2014.
Detailed recap:
1. Made B in limited back in March. (since then I've switched to Production)
2. Made it into the 23s range.
3. Improved mental preparation definitely helped me avoid some bonehead moves.
4. Finished a few matches without total Fails mixed in. This required both equipment and mental improvements.
5. I brought about half a dozen first time shooters to at least one match.
-
I'm glad you brought this one back up, great way to reflect.
I certainly didn't make B or even sniff C. All classifier match killed me on 2 stages with bad reloads :(
I will keep plugging along though, with practice and dryfire and maybe some luck. Something has to click soon.
Great trap season, didn't bust 100 straight but had at least 5 perfect 25's.
Kept the family involved in shooting trap, Ruger Rimfire Challenge, Rock Your Glock, etc.
looking forward to 2014.

Have to amend post. Shot Sectionals, Area 3 (got a DQ with only two stages left and IT WAS GOING TO BE A CLEAN MATCH!). I only had 9 D's no Mikes, no no-shoots, etc. I felt it was a breakout match. Went to Nationals, didn't DQ but it was probably the worst match I ever shot. Nonetheless it was a great time.
