<rant type=mild>
I share a (fairly uncommon) last name with arguably the greatest handgun competitor of our time. Unfortunately none of his talent has rubbed off on me.
Ever since I was a kid I have dealt with people who insist on adding an extra "N" to my name. I always figured it was just the man keeping me down, and as one of the little people I had to just live with it.
But today I was browsing the goodies on the CZ Custom Shop's site and noticed the product below. Apparently even if you're a world famous competitor it's not enough to get your name spelled right. I think it's discrimination against Austro-German Americans with funny names. I'm going to see if Al Sharpton will advocate for me.
I would be willing to settle for a shopping spree at the CZ Custom Shop. Or just a new Shadow.

Whenever you feel grumpy about that, just remember your name isn't Dave Thomas...
-
Maybe you could use that to score a date with the cute readhead from the Wendy's commercials.

I do enjoy the redheads...

C-A-D-Y. Simple enough right? Mispronounced EVERYTIME!

You're Canadian, LOL!

I think you can all just be glad your name isn't Asplin. When we were naming our son, we had to be very careful. Jack? No. Harry? No. You get the picture. :D

Klein would be easy, you would think. Has been pronounced CLEAN many, many times. Been misspelled Klien, Cline, Kline, Clyne, Kleen, Klen, Klin. Just pay me in cash and be done with it!!!

people insist my last name is pronounced "hash" or "hash-ish". i mean, its not that difficult for everyone to forget the "a" sound and use a long "i" sound.... come on its easy.

bkoenig:
BTW and While-We're-At-It, your name is pronounced kur'-nish.
Not Kay-nigk. Like those Misspeller Folks have been saying.
You can tell it to those Folks Who Misspell Koenig. Might help them get it right. Maybe.

It would be easier if we'd kept the umlat.

Coulda changed it to King. Way back when.
Say, before 1st Grade. Woulda been easier to spell, learn to write in cursive. All that. Woulda saved a lot of extra writing over the years. Easier to sign on checks, BATF forms, etc.
Get KING license plates. Cops leave you alone.
Plus King has a certain dignity in English. [Gotta go all the way to Deutschland to get full credit for Koenig.]
OK, OK....but You started it.

My ancestors were Andersons. They changed it to Asplin because Anderson was too common. I think they achieved their goal. :D
