Title: 2013 Man vs Man Steel Competition -- May 19th at ENGC
Post by: JTH on April 25, 2013, 11:33:32 AM
The 2013 Man vs Man competition signup is up!  Get yourselves ready...

For those who haven't gone before, the Man vs Man competition is a double-elimination tournament in which you go head-to-head with another shooter, attempting to knock down steel plates and hit your stop plate faster than your opponent.  Each matchup is best-two-out-of-three, and the steel targets range from small plates to large poppers.

Last year we had 52 shooters in three pistol divisions, and 28 shooters in two shotgun divisions.  So---bring lots of ammo!  If you win, you'll be doing quite a bit of shooting!

Pistol divisions this year:  Limited, and Open.  (Open means optical sight and/or compensator.  Limited is everything else.)

Shotgun divisions:  Semi-auto and Pump.

We'll shoot pistol in the morning, then shotgun in the afternoon.  Cost for the match (entry in one pistol division and up to both shotgun divisions, if you like, plus a FANTASTIC lunch) is $20.  (If you want to bring the family to watch, lunch is $5.  The food is excellent.)

Each year the steel setup is a little different, but we'll have 6 steel plus a stop plate for pistol, and 5 steel plus a stop plate for shotgun.  As we said, it is double-elimination, so you'll get at minimum four runs for the day.  (Pistol is double-elimination, shotgun is single-elimination, but you can do shoot both shotgun divisions if you like.)

Sometime around mid-morning, we'll also probably start up a plate rack side match, so you'll want to try that out also.

Man vs Man is a ton of fun---and surprisingly stressful.  You are trying to beat your opponent, but we run two pairs of competitors at a time.  As such, there is a LOT of shooting going on, and the people who can keep their head, not let all the banging noises make them rush, and aim every time tend to come out winners.

Here's a couple of videos from previous year's matches:
Man-on-Man Steel Challenge Match, May 18th (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6PIqjDSxd4#)
Sarah shooting in the ENPS Man-vs-Man match... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQEsWHIWeIA#)

We get people of all skill levels, and everyone has a good time.

We'll be going out to the range on Saturday May 18th at about 5pm to start setting up the steel.  People are welcome to come out and help!

On match day, registration starts at 7:15am like normal.  We'll have the brackets ready to go by 9am (because registration cuts OFF at 8:40), and we'll have our shooter's meeting at 9am with shooting right after.

Here's the thing---to make sure we have enough food, PLEASE go to:  http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/2013/05/steel/man-vs-man.htm (http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/2013/05/steel/man-vs-man.htm)

and RSVP so we have an idea of how many people to prepare for.

You'll want to do this---it is a TON of fun.  Bring a pistol and your shotguns, and plenty of ammo.

This is the most fun match of the year!!!!!

Wish I could be there, but again..... It is on that one weekend in May when my job requires me to be elsewhere  :-(

This match is a blast---and you don't have to worry about moving or reloading on the clock.

For pistol, all draws are from the surrender position (wrists above respective shoulders).  For shotgun, you start holding the shotgun with the stock touching your hip, pointed downrange.

On the tone, you put the gun on target, and start shooting.  And try to ignore all the banging sounds coming from around you!

Remember, to beat anyone and advance in the bracket, it is best-two-out-of-three runs.  So if you get them once, don't relax yet---you have to do it again!

Pistol is double-elimination, shotgun is single-elimination.  I know I've said it all before, but some people probably didn't read the original post.  :)

For $20, you get to shoot in one pistol division in the morning, have a GREAT lunch (and the chocolate cake is seriously excellent), and then in the afternoon can do both pump-action and semi-auto shotgun divisions if you like.  We'll also be having a plate-rack side match in there too, so bring a couple of dollar bills....

It's a good time.  If you are coming, please let us know ahead of time so we have enough food for everyone!  RSVP at:  http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/2013/05/steel/man-vs-man.htm (http://www.easternnebraskapracticalshooters.com/2013/05/steel/man-vs-man.htm)

Kyle said he might even be attending, so it'll be a full house! I might be picking up a new/used 870 Talo edition tonight.

Well, I know a guy who might be able to influence the tournament bracket....but you are probably going to need to bring an extra $20 to make it worth his while...

Focus on not getting disqualified for safety violations. They'll give a good safety briefing before the match. Make sure to get right up front so that you can hear. I'll be the chubby handsome looking guy at the front ;-) Once you've eased into the competitions and gotten a little experience, then you can start trying to beat down jthapkido and Sean.

You and me both, between my terribleness at using a pump and my semi malfunctioning, I didn't even make it past the first round in either division. :P
